    Help choosing a laptop

I will have enogh ca$h coming up in Feburary to buy a new laptop. I am wondering what is good. I am not a gamer, but I do want a nice machine. I can spend up to $3000 canadian, but prefer to keep it around $2000. What do you people recommend?

get something with a 64bit CPU to help future proof your machine and make sure it is expandable to at least 1gb of ram for the same reasons.

I am definitely looking at the Athlon 64 bit cpu. I would like a gig of ram, at least an 80 gig HD, preferably a high-cap battery, dvd all-in-one, and maybe 128 mb graphics. Is this too much to ask for that price. Extended warranty is important to me also.

check out the Acer TravelMate line. i get 5-6 hours on a charge and everything works great.
avoid the Acer Aspire line they don't have good battery life.

btw mine is a 1.6 ghz pentium M (NOT A P4-mobile) the pentium M is a pentium 3 on crack with the good features from the p4 but not all the crap that made it slow.

Top notch but as you can see with the Aliens they are also top dollar.
I personally recommend a Toshiba, I own one and it has always been a good machine and versatile.

I am leaning towards Toshiba or Acer. Thanks for all your input.

Yeah for sure. You need a drool bucket to look at their latest models. There's a class one with a fully adjustable screen.

...the bad part is that laptop with the graphics capability you want is going to eat up your battery life and most likely be kinda heavy to lug around.

I'd prefer a Panasonic Toughbook. They make me as excited as a little school girl.
