Hello, I've a probelm running dated games on Windows XP.
I'm running Final Fantasy VII Ultima Edition on my PC. It can only run in full screen mode, and whenever I minimize the screen (by pressing Start key, esc dones't work for some reason) and bring it back up again, a part of the screen flashes like crazy. Its really annoying, and a real bugger on the eyes. I'm wondering if anyone else had that kind of problem with any older games, though I'm not really sure what the exact problem is. The game still runs fine, but the flashing part is a real displeaser.
Any help is certainly appreciated : )

What auggie sujested is about the best you will be able to get. If you want to run games made for dos download a program called dosbox, it wont help you in this instance but just in casse you were ever going to.
Anyone upset or offended by my post please follow the link and let your opinions be known.

was talking to a techie friend about this earlier today, and he said that if the makers of the game no longer do support with updates, it's almost impossible.
we're here for a good time, not a long time- so have a good time, the sun can't shine every day.....
Thanks for the replies, guys.
@Auggie: Tried that, but its looks like the game isn't compatible with XP... If thats not what you meant, the game itself is best run at Win95/98, but thats already the default setting.
Anyways, I did a bit more research and it looks like there's a XP patch for this game out there. I'll try it and get back to you guys.

The patch I got worked. No more bright flashes, yayness.
...Brings me to another problem, though. There is no background when the character is walking on fields, only chunky polygonal sprites running about like idots T^T

I tried to get FFVII running a long time ago, but gave up before I found the patch. It sounds like you solved only "some" problems, which is too bad since it was a kick ass game.
