New XBOX 360 ISO can be burned and played DVD-R style

Yep thats right, the unhackable is becoming more and more hackable, came across an ISO release from a site that can be burned and played on the new XBOX 360. Its just their Kiosk Demo, but it nonetheless is an exciting step forward towards eventual modding.

    Check it out and enjoy.

haha microsoft is so fucked, this is an enormous flaw that hackers will quickly exploit, if a demo can run without protection then there is definately a way to make any game run this way.

So they are excited about a demo that wasn't copyright protected being copied and playable on the xbox 360?
It's just a demo isn't it?Don't they pack them with the system free?Maybe I'm missing something, but this doesn't exactly seem like a breakthrough.

Its not at all. People are all too quick to want MS to get ripped off. I really don't know why people want the video game market to fail. Thats the last thing I want. Ive been through a video game slump where there were no video game consoles anymore and it sucked 1983 -1985. Those years were really sad. Imagine no new games being made for two years. Can you even? Its not nice I'll tell you.

If worse comes to worse maybe they'll start using proprietary disc formats like the PSP or Gamecubes.I just wish they would give you two discs in a package;one for everyday use and one for storing in case something happens to the first one.
I don't want to see the industry go down, but I also want a backup for my software.

I really wouldnt mind I havnt bought a new system since the dreamcast and have found that there are endless mounds of older games that I have yet to play. It might mean something, the fact that a game can be copied raises the question on weather its possible to do this for any game. This might help crack the protection code. Its like giving someone a broken key, not all the pieces are there but you just might be able to put it back together to break into their house.

Two copies, hmmm really now! Any product has a limited life span. Its up to you to take care of it and not scratch or break it. That is not a fault of the manufacturer. It would be nice to make a back up copy to cover my own clumsiness of course.

Choosing not to buy and having no choice at all are two different things. It was really depressing at the time. It looked as though video games were really a fad as everyone was saying all along. lol
Me and my ColecoVision spent many many hours together over the next two years as I bought a huge selection of games very cheap as every retail store was trying to dump their remaining supplies. Everywhere (in 1983) it seemed you could find huge bargain bins filled with games for $1.99. That was sorta cool but the games, like E.T., really sucked ass.

I still play older games too and very much enjoy them. My only point was that I'm of the opinion the video game market doesnt deserve to be in the P2P war. Thats just the way I feel about it. I think its great to share old content that people may have missed but the new stuff I would like to see given a fair shake to make a buck so that game development will keep up to a certain (hopefully) standard.

This copying of an unprotected game is likely to lead nowhere. It only shows that the system will be able to read DVD R's without a mod. The X box copyprotection has nothing to do with this at all. However, I hear it will soon be cracked non the less.

I think this situation really needs to be explained a little bit more.

As of currently, unsigned code CAN NOT be run on the xbox 360. However, several advancements - including this one - are contributing to a near future where unsigned code can be run. So, whats the big deal then? Well with the xbox, and (supposedly) the 360, the disk as a whole must be verified for anything to run. For example, you make a duplicate of your GTA: San Andreas disk. When you try running that backup, it won't run (unless you've modded your xbox that is). The issue with this disk image for the 360 is that the disk doesn't have to be signed in order for software on it to run. So now we can run anything we want, right? Not quite. The 360 improved on the security, and also requires the executables to be signed. That means that we can't put any random 360 executable on a disk and have it run - microsoft must approve it first.

Even though we can't get what ever we want to run on the 360, this 'discovery' still has some value. With it, media formats (eg WMV-HD) can be used on the 360 by replacing other media files on the disk. This opens the door for hacks like buffer overflows, etc. and may lead to full-fledged hacks in the future. Also (Note: this is just pure speculation on my part) this may make game backups a reality very soon. The executables for games are already signed by microsoft. And given that for this type of disk the DVD as a whole doesn't need to be signed, both of the major copy protections are taken care of. Combining the two may allow for backups to be made.

True,it's not the manufacturers fault if I wreck my game (even though I have yet to wreck a game).I think they should allow me to back it up easily though without a lot of hassle. I think if they insist on making games hard to copy, the least they could do is give a second copy;that way, they help prevent some of the piracy(well maybe)and they make their customers happy at the same time.

While it would make a lot of people happy, in most cases two people lol, its just not a good idea for them to allow copying of their products or provide two copys with every purchase. I understand it sucks not being able to copy but its required so they can run a business and make a profit to keep those new games flowing. Most console makers lose money to get the hardware in the customers hands. The way they justify this is by software sales as you well know. This is why I support the sharing of older games but not the new ones.

It would be nice if every product came doubled up just in case but this seems a bit unreasonable to me, I dunno. Maybe we can get them to put two 360's in the box as well. ( I hear they have some quality issues)

Game market isnt going to crash, alot of people have consoles and dont mod it nor burn backups. People got ripped off by buying a game and not being able to take it back for a new one or no real warranty incase the game sucks. But this is a big step. Depending on what these hackers can do.. They can make another program to dump the security stuff and send the other stuff to the different part of the pc to compile later without security on it. And be able to play it. Or they may be able to put something on the disc that can do what a SOFTMOD has done.. Dump the memory system or bios out to run backup games.
