Is it onboard sound. If so check your bios and make sure it is onboard audio is enabled. ALso check your device under sound video game controllers and make sure soundcard is detected. ALso make sure there are no resource conflicts.

Yeh, check under device manager and see if its working properly. I suspect you deleted your audio drivers

yah. you deleted or uninstalled your audio drivers. almost definetely. check the device manager like the guys above said and then get out the software/utility disc that came with the computer.

erm. does windows install onboard device drivers for devices on your mobo, kokanezub?

it sure doesn't on mine. at least not properly. or consistently. its not even consistent in its inconsistencies.

boogiedan: get out the software/util disc that came with your machine and NOT ANY ITERATION OF A WINDOWS OS. if your pc didn't come with such a disc you will need to ascertain the make and model of your mobo (or manufacturer if its dell or something equivalent) and surf to the companies website for support drivers for that board.

if you have a seperate pci sound card: get out the install disc for the card and reinstall the drivers.

    Ahem, exactly!

Sometimes you can get lucky and a generic driver will work, other times not

...if you think it might be a hardware issue, I would always try a knoppix disc or something like that. I use those for testing hardware that is un co-operative in windows. If you have trouble figuring out what hardware is in there try Everest Home Edition to figure out what you need to look for a driver for.

It may be time for you to update all drivers as well (video, audio, ethernet cards). Go download free Everest Home utility, and get acquainted with your computer's inside!
