The Producers - A movie you'll want to miss

Heads Up! This movie sucks balls!

    How to produce a stinker

"We've seen shit before, but nothing like this!" sing two disgusted theatregoers emerging from the foyer at the start of The Producers. They were lucky. They'd only had to see the latest Max Bialystock production on Broadway; I wondered how they'd respond to what I'd just sat through. One might suppose that this golden egg, hatched to a great fanfare on Broadway with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick as its stars, would carry over some of its lustre to the big screen and dazzle audiences all over again. Well, it probably seemed a good idea at the time - unfortunately, the egg has gone rotten in transit, and the whiff hits you within 10 minutes."

This is a remake of a Mel Brooks movie that flopped. Later on it was turned into a broadway play that recieved much success, thus, a remake was in order. Suprise suprise! Another remake that sucks. If Gene Wilder couldnt make the first one fly, I have no idea why they thought Broderick could do better. Skip over this King Kong size pile of crap. By the way, did you see King Kongs balls? They should cover those things! Kong in a thong, AWESOME! J/K

Not all musicals suck. Such as, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou, The Wall, 2001, A Clock Work Orange and a few others that are kick ass. Well, maybe some of those dont have song and dance but theyre still musicals, Oh Brother was really good.

thanks for the warning, mels. and you're right- the original did flop, too. it did well on broadway because people go there expecting song and dance, no matter how ludicrous. rocky horror was a cool musical.
we're here for a good time, not a long time- so have a good time, the sun can't shine every day.....

Yeah.. Its like the Movie chicago. It was decent but as a musical thats suppose to be on stage, it was much better. Somethings need to stay on broadway or as a playbill.. Making it into a movie is most like a bad idea. Moulin Rouge? It had a highmark for movie goers, so i guess everyone got the idea to bring it to the big screen.

A 7.8 is a very good score. I would recommend the original to everyone. I cant speak for the remake though as i havent seen it.

Clockwork Orange was a musical? Hmmm.

The Broadway show for the Producers, when it was advertising, turned me off. Making it a movie seems even worse. I don't think Martin Short would even have been able to save it. Nathan Lane looks to be be as annoying as he was in The Birdcage.
