There is a project for using eMule to access ANts.
Today: users use ANts and eMule together, but that's not user friendly use 2 programs together. They must do all twice: double install, double start, double settings and only expert users can optimize resourses as shared files, upload bandwidth and so on. Note: a lot of users are able of using eMule, ANts is unknown.
Idea: eMule now use 2 networks, ed2k and Kad. eMule could use also a third network, ANts. So eMule could became a multiprotocol client, as Shareaza, MLDonkey, Morpheus 4.9.x. We *know* ANts can't be "mixed" with ed2k and kad. No problem, we are not interested to mix them. We only want a unique GUI to command the 3 networks, doing *the same things* we do now when we open eMule and ANts together. Only 1 gui for 3 networks.
Benefits:
*) ANts is full transparent for users
*) ANts will populate faster
*) same eMule GUI to set:
-> start, close program, networks choice
-> ANts port, bandwidth limit, ipFilter.dat
-> shared / upload completed files (if user want share files on both networks)
-> IRC access, nick names, messages
-> searchs
-> stats
-> ed2k link download
-> help and credits
Problem: ANts is in Java and writing it in C++ is too complex. So, ANts will remain in Java. That's what: eMule must "use" ANts core and, using eMule GUI, user can access to ANts P2P. User must see only 1 GUI (eMule one) and never see ANts original GUI. eMule GUI must have more options in it for all ANts settings and commands.
Solution: using a middleware. Corba, COM, OLE, .Net, RPC, ICE. Best choice could be ICE: robust, fast, easy, open-source (GPL), ICE could let ANts and eMule communicate together. So, Gwren can still develop his ANts network and P2P freely, eMule can develop his network freely and the middleware will always join both.
Needed: developers who know Java and/or C++ and/or ICE. Who joins?

why do you even bother?
Just add fastrack to ants. Then it really will be the app to have.
why bog the emule network down anymore than it already is.
and what would emule users get out of this
(not that any of this is going to happen outside of abc's head but I might as well humor the guy)
lets see ed2k has lots of great content, over 3million users nice speeds on popular files and rare files you always get if your willing to wait.
antz has 3 users(all of whch are just abc's differnt names) no content and is slow.
the onlything going for it is it been "anonymous" which we know nothing is on the net so thats not much of a plus.
also this isnt going to make emule any safer the only people its going to make "anonymous" are the 3 leechers on ants leeching from your emule share folder.
basicly he wants people to strech their upload bandwith abit more to ants users so they can get some files on their non exsictent network on a network(ed2k) that already lacking enough up bandwith as it is hence the long queues.
Its the most moronic, stupidly retarded fucktard of a idea which will never happen.

To all, not, I'm not ABC and if you don't like this idea, simply you can say no or close the thread. ABC spam all forums about his idea, I don't know what his idea speak about and I don't want know.
You see, I'll not spam or bother anyone. This is a thread about a real project, so please only who is interested should work on it. I'll not open new thread and I invite you to ask your questions here so I can reply. If you will open a new thread about this project I will not reply.
And, by the way, if ABC is reading ... I don't remember what's your idea and please don't write here ...
Well, you should consider there are NO ANts users who use ONLY ANts (how much? 1? 2?). All ANts users use also another p2p network too. So, the same bandwidth they use/divide now is the same bandwidth they will use tomorrow. Nothing change. I hope this is clear.Originally Posted by .:sp00ky:.
A goal of this project is make ANts more used by users, also newbie eMule users. In a lot of country and offices ed2k network is blocked/slowed by ISPs and more and more will add to the list. Users who can't download anymore and wants continue downloading have 2 possibility:
* change ISP (if they are available ...)
* use ANts (its traffic is https and Skype like) or this new eMule Mod
By the way, there are REAL eMule modders and developers just engaged. So, if you are interested, let me know.

their are 3 million ed2k users are you saying they all use ants as well don't talk crap their are 4 antz users so that leaves everyone else on emule having less bandwith and of course antz uses up more bandwith than normal p2ps so thats gonna meen even less bandwith for ed2k users.Originally Posted by abc
NO its not this thing is never going to be made you have no people working on it and even if you did make it no one would use it only you.This is a thread about a real project

Tried ANts once. It sucked.
Totally scewed with things it shouldn't have... broke my Java, too.
Also couldn't find much to d/l.
I've been using eMule/edonkey for years and see no need to integrate a program/network that won't be useful.
Also... I wish programmers would stay away from Java based apps. It's needlessly hard on a CPU.
So...ummm... to be blunt... If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
1) No, I said "all ANts users use also another p2p network". It's quite different from saying "All eMule users use also ANts", are you agree?Originally Posted by .:sp00ky:.
ANts "waste" bandwidth? Sure, all anonymous networks waste it. FreeNet, TOR, I2P, NodeZilla, Mute, Dark ... anonymous networks cost.
2) All users in this forum say "ANts sucks", "it's in Java ... bla bla", "ANts is slow". Strange ... is this forum pro or against ANts? "ANts watch", correct? ...
3) You can say "I don't agree", "I don't like your idea". Nevertheless, I'll do my software. That's freedom, guys
So, who likes project can post here or privately message me, it's up to you. If you don't like the project and have no questions, I hope it's not a problem for you if I'll not reply ...
I hope Tsafa will wrote 2 lines, I know he really loves ANts so I'm simply curious what is his idea about it and how he thinks we can approach more users on ANts.
Love and peace :icon_thum

He would develop Ants even if was just me and him running it because he enjoys it. (i'm sure he will grind his teeth when he reads this, lol) He does not want to merge with anyone for the sake of a larger user base. If the program meets your needs, or if you are interested in this technology I will post useful information when I hear it from Gwren, or he'll post it himself. He has gained the respect of his users over two years of consistant development.
If you are able to actualy modify the program and it is a real genuine development effort not some GUI change. I will most certainly bata test it and help you in the way I can. Sorry if I seem harsh, but I have seen a lot of peole come in here and blow wind about how they can make it better and then give nothing.
My suggestion is study the code, learn it inside out and then set it aside and start coding from scratch. You may stumble onto something completly new without realizing it. If you start with a working Ants program and try to adjust some lines of code here and there, I do not think you will get far. You will never get emule to be compatible with Ants because Ants is not even compatible with itself everytime the protocol changes. 0.7.6 is not compatible with 0.7.7 and that is not compatible with 0.7.8 When I get the first update, I can not connect with anyone else. I have to wait untill others update.
Don't write a monster program that will transfer large files at first. Write something small that can transfer simple text in an adhoc manor. Consider an anonymous instant messaging program. Try to develop a new methode of transfer rather then the original scent idea. Try to find away to get the faster computers to connect to each other to create a backbone. Imagine all the ways the network can be attacked and defend against them. There is a lot of thought that needs to go into this. If you can code something small like that and make it work accross 3 or 4 computers then we can talk. But first decide if you are prepared to spend the next five years working on this.
I write this not just to one man, but to any aspiring programmers who have any ideas.
