Question Could my ISP block p2p file sharing completely?

    Hi all

Yesterday, my ISP decided to block p2p traffic in our network.

I have no technical information about that, but my Kazaa and other p2p progs dont work now.

Is it possible that they could block all p2p programs?
    Is there any known workarounds?

(i dont know anything about how my network works: when they installed inernet at my house, they just plugged the cable to my computer and configured Internet Explorer (they just set a HTTP proxy)- no SOCKS or things like that)

    Please help!!!

First of all, if U use IE(5-6) goto Tools/Internet Options, There at the Connection Tab and press Lan Settings. If there is a cross at point : "Use a Proxy Server..." try putting it away and Apply. Restart Internet Explorer and check if U can anymore be connected to pages outside Your country...(If not put the cross back and ignore rest of this message or jump to **).

If it works without proxy-settings, then U have just overrided most of Ur ISP's settings. (Most apps reads Your proxy-condition from default browser's settings) Then just go trying the p2p apps. If they're not workin', try changing port numbers (KL's default is for me port 1214 and the FireWall section's Socks5 Proxy setting I have Left Blank.

** If U really are firewalled, put down the settings from IE and set them to Kazaa or WhatAppYouUsing correctly, change the port to 1234 and try more ports between 1024- 4096, they cannot all be blocked!

The ISP's assume that we know nothin' bout configuring and propably have only banned the default ports....

    Peace ! Now and Forever

    Unhappy

I have unchecked the "HTTP Proxy" option in LAN settings and IE works fine, but Kazaa and others still don't work.

I don't know either how to change a port number in Kazaa Lite (I can't find such an option).

    I still need help!!!

    At Kazaa go to :
Tools / Options /Firewall, down there is the Incoming Port, change it to e.g. 1234 and check the box "use port 80 as an alternative". If this won't help, they really have blocked Kazaa traffic by other means : By checkin' it's communications at IP fragment level and put a stopper there at firewall level...
I really hope that U get around the problem, because if all da webmasters are becoming to ban whole IP-ranges, we will lose many file shares.

(FU mr. WebBastard if U read this : let people do their interests - It's not criminal. Take a look at RIAA and politicians and leaders : do they have any moral when making laws to get poor people's lives more mixed-up every day...???)

So God Save The Queen, I really wont be able to help more...!!!

    hmmmm

have you tried to DL another App other than Kazaa an has it worked? If not there are ways to get around it i like open nap networks as the ports are often not default ports ;) I am sure there are people round that would like another person sharing files on their servers ;)

    Wink it's ok

I haven't found the "use port 80..." in Kazaa Lite (I'll try to download other versions later), but for those who have similar problem: THERE IS A SOLUTION, which was posted many times here (somehow it took me so long to find that):

I've downloaded program called "socks2http" and it has detected HTTP proxy in our local network, then I configured SOCKS5 in Kazaa (Tools/Options/Firewall): in "host" field I entered my internal IP (you can check it using "ipconfig" command at command line prompt), in "port" field typed "1080".
After restarting Kazaa: it really started to work!!!

I'm not quite sure what I've done, but I'm happy (they say this method slows down the transfer rate, but it's not so bad: about 40kB/s at the moment, which is 2 times slower that before).

Thanks for people that tried to help me, and good luck for all the others!

Mostly agree U Krell, and because U R a teleportation specialist, U really CAN Teleport Juggalo to Andromeda with TP1 from Stargate. (Propably Juggalo (from West Virginia) will feel fine discussing with Richard Dean Anrerson (from Sweden) about Andromeda's future and Åsgords help to build a better parallel universum there)

To the original question of this thread. We propably helped dixonnected a little by finding a way to KaZaA's settings and THKX God ?his/hers? firewall was of type Socks5 ! The older ones are kinkee to set up with kazaa, old HTTP1.0 type may not work at all.

So God has Saved The Queen and everyone's happy at this thread now...

P.S. Krell - Yesterday I posted abot 30 messages, but I cannot and willnot make one-line messages to get more BullsBrothersSenility - so, pleaze do not teleport me to andromeda; I don't like the plastic scrubby Åsgords :wings

P.P.S. I just lost oxygen (my dog made [again] a HUGE Fart)

Peace and happy p2p & share2share to All
