The bill, outlined by U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales at an anti-piracy summit, would widen intellectual-property protections to cover those who try but fail to make illicit copies of music, movies, software or other copyrighted material. It would also enable investigators to seize assets purchased with profits from the sale of illicit copies, as well as property such as blank CDs that might be used for future copying. Those found guilty of a copyright violation could be forced to pay restitution to the owner of the material in question, and repeat offenders would face stiffer sentences. "This legislation is a reflection of the sustained commitment on the part of the Bush Administration, including the Department of Justice, to ensure that we are doing everything we can to combat this problem," Gonzales said in a press release.

it's amazing how many things are wrong with the country but they worry so much about punishing filesharers. i can imagine being in jail and your cellmate asks you what are in and you say copyright violation.

Soon the Government will require each person to register themselves when they buy blank DVD's/CD's and will limit the amount you can buy within a months or years time!
Kinda like the whole thing with how much medicine you can buy in a months time, etc.

personally, i have just enough faith that BS like this wont pass ever. as bad as polititions are, there are enough smart ones to know what the worst case senerio is for each bill, and how some will try to exploit it.
wether they do it from the goodness of their souls, or just dont want to be the one that voted for average joe to get more time than the rapists is still up for debate.
