    Yellow w/DI-604

This is an extremely annoying problem which I have tried for hours to fix. Torrents just wont download fast, the highest speed I get is 10kb/s. Usually its a yellow light, but when I woke up this morning the torrent was green. Unfortunatley the speeds were still about 4kb/s. I havent gotten it to go green again since then.

My computer is connected to cable (shaw) through a DI-604 router. There are 2 other computers connected to the router, a PC and Mac. Windows firewall is turned off and as far as I know there are no other firewalls except for the one in my router. The router and router firewalls are all forwarded correctly.

Possibly the most annoying part is that directly connecting to my modem doesnt seem to change anything, I still get a yellow light and still get slow download speeds. I assume this means my router isnt the problem. I thought my modem may be, but it used to work fine. This problem appeared out of nowhere a couple of months ago. The modem is made by Terayon, I dont know the model and I couldnt find it on their website.

I have tried a connection checker torrent (http://bittornado.com/connection-checker.torrent) and it says that I am okay. Also the Azureus NAT test works fine. http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl however, does not work, ever.

I use bit tornado, and there doesnt seem to be any difference between its speeds and Azureus'. I have tried many different torrents with the same results.

I have tried many different ports, and they all have the same results. I am using a static DCHP, which didnt make any difference.

I have cleaned all the spyware and adware that I know of using spybot and ad-aware pro, except one that keeps showing up in spybot; FastClick.

Like I said, this problem appeared out of nowhere a few months ago. I used to have fast speeds and green light. I used Azureus before.

Im completely stumped. Ive tried for hours to fix it and my nerves wear thin. Any help would be <3

    Thanks.

Search the threads till you find another post by me, with a link to the torrent Star Wreck

Eliminate all the variables such as router and firewall and test

This torrent screams ass, if you cant get speed with this, your fucked.

Narrow this down to the least common denominators, and write stuff down!!

Spend another hour of your own time doing this, and be thorough about posting what you did, and what you find.

Also, check for 4226 errors, you can find plenty of info on that here too.

    use the SEARCH feature

I downloaded the torrent and started it with bit tornado. The speed is fast, but not 600. Its about 150 kb/s, with 4 peers and 55 seeds. They are all local. I have let it sit for a while now, and there are no changes. Its still about 150 kb/s (165 right now) The upload speed is 0-1 kb/s. The light is still yellow.

(I waited even longer after typing this, the download speed is now almost 200 kb/s. Still 0 kb/s upload. Seeds and peers are the same)

(5 minutes more the dl speed increased by 25kb)

(5 minutes later the speed seems to just be fluctuating by about 50 kb up or down from 200 kb/s)

Im not using a router right now, and windows firewall is still off. It should be noted that the Azureus NAT test fails now. The connection checker torrent still works though.

According to the internet speed tests I have done, I have about 2 mbit.

Also, I set the TCP limit thing up to 100. (the 4226 error)

Thanks for the help so far!

Watch the Event Viewer for subsequent instances of the 4226 error with newer time stamps

Does Bit Tornado have a listening port?

So far the error hasnt appeared since I raised the limit. By listening port do you mean the port I have set in the preferences? I have it set to 16860-16870 right now, though I have tried many others with no effects. (5400-5420, 6870-6880, etc etc)

EDIT: It just occured to me, I think this all started happening after I reformatted my computer. My computer was originally built and set up by a company, computer renaissance, when the downloads were working fine. I dont have a lot of technical computer knowledge, so this may have started happening because I did something incorrectly after reformatting. I have no idea what.

EDIT 2: http://www.testmyports.com/index.php and http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl both dont work with no router or firewall. I dont know whats up with that.

Quite a few hours later, and my torrent has been downloading all day. Not much progress but I noted that the light has turned from yellow to green. The speed increase is noticible but minimal - it has gone up to about 10-15 kb/s. The online tests still fail. ARGH, so confusing.

    OK

    Delete that movie

Clean up yor PC > defrag > reboot IN THAT ORDER

    Uninstall all BT software

    Reboot

    Install BitSpirit v3

The default port there is 24591

Go to PREFERENCES > JOB OPTIONS > Global Limitation of Upload Speed = 20
    (dont change anything else yet)

    Press OK

Use the torrent for Star Wreck, and use BitSpirit to DL it - retest

Watch the "Connected Peers" and the speed

    Post observations

Not much change it seems. The download speed is hovering around 250-300 kb/s, and the upload is about 0. 53 seeds / 54 peers. I dont know where the 'LED' light to show conneciton status in this program is, but the online tests still fail. BTW, I forwarded port 24555 because thats the one set in the preferences.

    Thanks again.

EDIT: Im going to try again with no router...

250-300 kb/s = where do you get that number from?

Youre clear it kiloBITS and not kiloBYTES ?

I'm also on shaw, behind the same router, and with Utorrent, the max up speed I can get is around 8-10kbps per peer. Currently, I have 18 slots open for peers, so that I'm a lot mroe conservative, since shaw is limiting bittorrent.

Thats just the number displayed in BitSpirit, under the Download (seed/peer) column. Im fairly sure its kilobytes.

There doesnt seem to be a difference between router/no router. The online test still fail and the speeds/seeds/peers numbers are all about the same.

I can pretty much confirm its not my router. My windows firewall is off too.

    Right on serrebi101

I think it's been that way for a year. If he tries what is a known good for the rest of us, then it is his system, or ISP, which is what it boils down to now.

Drin theres a huge difference in kilobits and kilobytes

One means youre not as bad off as suspected, the other is piss poor.

Do you use or have Sygate Firewall? It always shows bandwidth in KB - KiloBytes

Sygtae firewall? Never heard of it. I dont think so.

I know the difference between bits and bytes, im pretty sure bitspirit is showing bytes. Whatever its default is, I suppose. I know bit tornado was showing bytes, and when I used the same torrent in spirit the speeds were about the same.

    200 - 300KB isnt that bad

I am going to let this run for 10 minutes and repost ont connections and speed in this thread.

In BitSpirit, you right click the stats, and chose COPY, or COPY ALL
