Hi Everyone,
I'm completely stumped about what to do about this. I would like to share a file with my brother who is in the US (I am in Japan). We both have Macs and have Acquisition(Limewire) installed on our computers. The file I want to share with him is an install disk for a educational software program we both need (we are both teachers). I have made a copy of the install disk and put it in my limewire share folder. I have had other anonymous users share other files through this program but now that I want a specific user to share a specific file, it's not working. I have given him the specific name and size of the file to look for, we have both been connected to network, but no dice. Am I doing something wrong? Can anyone recommend an alternative method to allow my brother to connect to me and download this file?
Thanks
Muy Perron
Its hard for me to recomemd anything for you because you are using a mac so I cant test any prog for you but try this http://fetchsoftworks.com/
Or go to download.com and search for "mac FTP"
Limewrie is terrible for sharing with a friend, files can take forever to filter thought the entire network and can be hard to find
Hard as ever and here to make you people believe...as long as there is one person to hold hope and dream...A GOD...will never die!
Maybe you shouldnt try that, just noticed its only a trail version then you have to pay for it. Look here http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0....&search=+Go%21 and try out a few free programs for sharing with friends
FTP Client (OS X) 4.0 has got some good reviews
Damn, its seems mac users get no free software! I would try them out, share the file then get rid

I'd suggest compress the files, then use yousendit.com or other eMail services for large file(s) to send it your brother directly!
Thanks dudes. I'm pretty new to this stuff so forgive the ignorance. I tried yousendit.com, but wouldn't let me send the entire install disc in one piece. The piece I did send & downloaded asked for the application type - no go.
FTP Client OS X is for more experienced users. Looks like Fetch is the favorite right now; am still working on the transfer though.
Thanks Again
I agree, use yousendit, rapidshare, megaupload or filefactory. Upload file to host and email him the link.Originally Posted by DigitalJunkie
You can always use HFS File Server. You open it up on your computer, add your folders, select the files you want to link and put on a password. Now all you have to do is send him an email with the link and your password. The link is like this...
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/>folder name</ where the site name is your IP. It's very useful, saves the upload time for you.

Hey, if you need to transfer some big files like that, you might want to check out this site Mofile.net. They are offering similar services to YouSendIt, but there’s one major difference (especially for people with cpu’s like mine). They have a thing called Magic Upload, which is great…since it saved me lots of time and frustration last week. I was trying to upload a file for a friend. My cpu is pretty bad sometimes and it crapped out on me mid-transfer. Anyway, to make a short story even shorter, they give you this Resume code when you start loading a file. If something screws up, just enter the code, select the same file and it starts up where it left off. Easy. Saves time otherwise wasted. The address is: www.mofile.net
how about icq man
u can resume files like that too
one on one messenger u add him to your list as a friend
he adds u to his list as a friend
then u upload to him by sending him a file
there is a version of W.A.S.T.E for mac
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...kage_id=106567
get filetopia....add his nick to ur list then send a file....use msn mesanger or aol.
"Hands down your pants"
surely mac OSX has a free FTP server either built in or downloadable
set that up, give him an accound and share the directory you want him to have access to
