    uhhh . . . magic dust?

WHY in THE hell would I just tell you to use a router, if there was another viable way?

You COULD set up Internet Connection Sharing by installing additional Network cards, and running cables everywhere, but thats the most cracked up way I can think of.

If you don't have a cd burner, you could always transfer small files on floppies. It's outdated technolegy since the thumbdrive was concieved, and it's far from versatile, but it still does the job for small files. If you're stupid you could buy an external hardrive, but a wireless router and adapter would get unrivaled results in all aspects. Thankyou.

Welcome to ZP, it's always good to have a new member. That is, unless they're out to cause trouble. Thankyou.

The usb thumdrive is better than the floppy. Unless you're a cheap bastard, stick with floppies. They are only good for 1.49 megabytes maximum storage. I'll say no more.

If you can afford attending university, you can afford a router.

Ok, thanx for the replies, the reason i asked is it possible to do it without the router is because since all of us are hooked on to the universitiy's network, i thought it might be possible to exchange files or create a server of sharefiles without a router. Thanx for letting me know and thanx for the welcome WhiteCrow

    You can do this.

Usually universities subnet out the LANs by some grouping: floor, cube, building, etc. You should be able to see most people in your group through "My Network Places" and the appropriate workgroup. You could also directly connect by IP.

You have to enable filesharing and make sure others are able to access your computer, of course.
