recently, (3 wks ago?) i noticed a download in progress of BSInstall 5.xx or similar. I had not initiated this, so i canceled it. I'm not sure whether the shutdown and reboot problems started right then or after it came back. Either way, i surmised this was bearshare's way of keeping everyone on the network simpatico by forcing them (us) to have the latest version, (instead of the periodic, flashing "update now" bear in the top left. So i let it do it's thing. Bearshare installed the update and i thought all would be fine...not so. Reboots continue. I also thought that perhaps the deletion of the bundled adware was causing a problem, so after un and re-installing BS, i let it be. No change. I dumped bearshare and checked out limewire, ares, areslite, emule. Apparently, no-one uses these either, cuz i couldn't find shit. So i came back to bearshare after thoroughly ( i think) cleaning up my system. Installed and let save! and other crap alone. ( i do block their activities w/ ZoneAlarm Pro). So, now my computer randomly reboots again. sometimes when firing an explorer related window, sometimes when i am away from the machine. I hope BS doesn't turn into BullShit!
Incidentally (i don't know if these are related) While investigating this problem, I came across info on this DrWatson32 Post-mortem debugger/Acebot virus issue. Check out this string for info
http://www.thenerdnetwork.net/forums...pic.php?t=3086
according to these folks, this virus is transmitted P2P.
I've seen these drwatson messages, and experience the screen flash when right clicking. but that started before this BS problem.
. I'm confused as to whether or not drwatson is legit in some cases or if it's a virus always.
If anybody has insight on either of these, please share...I don't want to have to kiss BS goodbye, but random reboots are simply intolerable. BTW, I would never knowingly infringe anyone's copyright or illegally download software or anything else.:icon_salu

oh, and also... there is a duration between reboots, sometimes 30 minutes, sometimes hours, and it doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing...opening an explorer window, searching on BS, watching a movie or playing a game, or not even doing anything. But as long as BearShare is running, I'm guaranteed to see reboots. I've been using BS for over a year and this is a new one on me.
This seems to be happening with the new BS a lot. Microsoft put out a fix for something with clashes with BS. Try this out...

I never saw any such message in normal or safe mode. If kerio doesn't solve the problem I'll try this
thanks again

oh shoot i been to ask leo before cool how u go thereOriginally Posted by The Hunter
problem was some sort of conflict between ZAP and the latest build of BearShare. Using Kerio, I've experinced no more unwanted reboots. I'm wondering now whether un and re-installing ZAP after BS has updated , so that ZAP could configure utself around BS would also have solved the problem?
