P2P with Linksys ADSL2MUE is sooooo bad

I have a LAN network between me and some of my neighbours where the router "Linksys ADSL2MUE" is located @ 1 of those neighbours. My biggest problem is the veryyyyy poor d/l speed e.g. 0.x KB/s where x is any +ve integer (AND/OR no download at all). I have searched the net about this issue and i found that the only possible solution is buying another router 2 be connected with the ADSL2MUE router and this another burden and complications. Isn't there any simpler solution 2 get around this problem ?

P.S. I use Windows XP + ZoneAlarm + Marvell Yukon network chip integrated on my mobo + DSL connection (PPPoA)

1 MORE imp. question 2 increase my knowledge: If Shareaza supports UPNP (universal plug and play) and assuming that i have this service running, will that solve my problem or the UPNP has nothing 2 do with this issue ?

I am appreciating any feedback on this issue coz i am suffering a lot with almost all my downloads since the day i know it:( except the files which exist heavily on the network

Are you connecting wireless or through a wired connection? If your connecting wirelessly then whats your connction strength and the kind of wireless router your using. If your not using a wireless connection then ignore.

You can only have 1 router for a network, after that if you want to expand then you use a switch. If the problem is that your are all trying to use too much bandwidth all at the same time, then just adding a switch would not really help things because its not the bandwidth of the lan network but the bandwidth from the DSL that is causing the bottleneck.

Well, i am running thru wires. There is no problem in bandwidth at all coz i find myself alone on the network many times so there is no bottleneck regarding this and i am pretty sure that the problem is with the inability of the stupid router i choosed "linksys" 2 port forward 2 my local IP address is the main reason of why i am having e.g. Low ID on eMule and very poor performance on Shareaza.
My main purpose of knowing an answer 2 my last question in my original post is that coz i downloaded that program called "LimeWire" although i hate it so much coz it forces me 2 d/l and install sun's java which i do hate it a lot (BLOATWARE! and makes my nice speedy machine sluggish) and since LimeWire must use Sun's Java 2 run, that's why the program takes 46 MB of my RAM !! in brief, the ONLY thing i love in this program is its ability 2 connect perfectly and i know this from the status bar in the program which says "Turbo-charged connection" and which means that the program connects perfectly with the net and that's why my test download file was downloading with a very nice speed as i should expect from my 256/128 DSL (speed was 27 KB/s). In trying 2 trace the reason of why this program alone connect perfecty 2 the net and not my other favorite apps, i found out that the reason "MAY BE" in its support of UPnP but i am not really sure of what i am saying and i need 2 wait 4 someone 2 confirm on my sayings.

UPNP should not affect things in the way you mention. Considering that your talking about specific programs and the issue is not a speed issue with the router, the problem is with those programs. P2P is not the same as downloading from a direct server, you are downloading from other people on the network and so you will not get the fastest speeds all the time.

Ditch the zonealarm, it causes problems and isn't the most secure anyway. Besides you hate bloatware and that is hat I found zonealarm to be alogn with how bad it fscks up internet conenctions soemtimes. The upnp, bah, better to set it up right yourself with forwarding if you can. The linksys router, bah, those are usually problems. Even if it works most of them limit you max_connections which can really fuck things up with p2p. Consider setting up your own dedicated firewall with soemthing like ipcop if you have a spare old computer lying around. You can usually get 1000+ connections with it and you are talking corporate level security for free.

The apps should usually be set for forwarding to your external ip address, not your local private ip. If you are forwzardign to local, it is no wonder you are getting a low id. Check out whatismyip.com and plug that in there. In 90% of cases, that'll work.

Java. It isn't that bad. Cross platfiorm support. The developer can easily support many different operating systems without having to write different code save for maybe the installer. Networks wouldn't be as big as they are if it was just one OS, nor would development be as good because instead of focusing on one code base with java you have 3+ to worry about and who has that time when you code for free? Buy some more memory. It is cheap.
