Hi, I am using Azureus and lately, about 90% of my downloads have been going below 25 kb. I have the correct ports open and everything. The wierd thing is that some files that I get will download at over 100 kb, but most of them are going at very low rates. One torrent for example, has over 1000 peers and 200 seeds and has been downloading at less than 10 kb for about 10 minutes now. I don't understand why popular files such as these are moving so slowly. I havent changed any of my settings since it was working fine but lately it has been like this with almost everything. Has anyone else been having this problem?
Search the forums before asking questions. This same question is asked every day.
I've read plenty of forums including this one about slow BT speeds and most of the people simply do not have their ports open or are having firewalls that are blocking BT traffic, I tried just about everything possible and I am stil having this problem

like the guy here said, i do get good speeds for some files, but mostly i am getting speeds of below 20, even for very popular files
Is your problem isolated to BT? Be a bit more specific. What OS are you using? Are you behind firewall hardware, like a router? What type of firewall do you use? What are you trying to download? Btw, how long do you expect a download to last? You stated that you only waited 10 minutes.
Azureus is great, but can be complicated for newbies. Have you thoroughly read the documentation? If you are stumped, I suggest trying another client, and see where that leads you. I use this one. Be sure to select the beta version (4.1.4) It happens to be my favorite, mainly for its simplicity, not that I have a problem understanding how the protocol works. I like it because I can use it from the commandline, but there is a gui also.
Just so you know, some files take a while. Some minutes, hours, days. It all depends. Just because something is popular does not mean it will go fast. If a 1000 people are all downloading the same file, latency will surely happen. If you happen to be using XP, with SP2, that may be your problem.

i think my problem is actually the thing with sp2 not allowing more than 10 connections, because even though azureus connects me to more than 10 ppl, i never download from that many
how do i fix the sp2 thing
ok, i did that sp2 fix and i set the limit to 30, i also went to the options and set my max number of outbound connections to 30
i increased my upload speed to 20 and i turned off stealth on my firewall
im gona let the torrent run a bit and ill c if that helped

anyway before i did it, it was going at around 30 and after it was at around 40 so i reverted all the changes back to normal and it was still going at 40 after i restarted
basically they had no effect
but since i was going at about 40 i guess its just the file i was getting, because the average speed for the swarm was only 25
anyway i guess its fine then so thanks
