    Constant disconnections when DLing torrents

    Hi every1

I have a big problem. My cabel internet connection keeps disconnecting. I don't have a router. My connection is 5Mbit DL / 768k UL. My DL speed is unlimited and I've limited my UL speed to 40k/s. I was using Azureus with the defualt number of connections (global and per torrent). Decreasing them didn't help. I'm now using BitComet and the problem is still there. I have a Thomson modem and a WinXP SP2 (TCPIP fixed).
The connection is usually up for a few hours (running Emule and a bittorrent program). I can't use MSN Messenger or mIRC because their connections is being cut every 5mins or so.
I've checked all over the internet for this problem and a few other people seem to have it to but no solution thus far. I've just noticed that people that changed to Win2000 are doing fine now. But I don't wanna change my OS.
Thank you very much for your help!

Have you checked that Azureus is an added exception to the XP Firewall or is there any other firewall that may be installed?

sounds more like a modem and/or isp problem.

Who is your ISP provider? How long have been using that modem? Any changes lately? Did you try other TCP & UDP ports than default ports?

This guy simply saturates his upload

ANYONE that cant supply acknowledgements back to an online app will see them fall out intermittently.

He should look for the 4226 errors, and throttle back his upload, stop trying to do SO many files at ONE time.

You are screwed. Just kidding. Have you tried resetting your modem? Unplug it, wait about 30 seconds then plug back in.

Also, you could try an IP renew. I assume you have a dynamic IP.

Open a command promt. Start -> Run -> cmd Type: ipconfig /renew

Your OS has nothing to do with it. Sounds like a modem problem or a cable problem. Also check all of your cables to make sure they are connected properly. Make sure that there is no es interferece either.

There is also the possibility that *mule or BT is consuming all of your bandwidth. Try setting this a bit lower too. Some dls on those protocols can be different than you are used to because it dls random bits, rather than sequentially.

    Thx for all replies guys.
I'm not saturating my UL. As you can se I have a 96k/s UL. So if Azureus ULs @ 40 and Emule @ 10 I still have 46k free UL. My DL is at about third the bandwith.
    Also no 4226 errors.
I have a static IP, my Win firewall is off, I use ZoneAlarm Pro and have forwarded all my ports.
The thing I did recently is that instead of my modem being plugged in USB I tried to use it via my onboard network card (nvidia 4). So now I'm back to USB, I'll leave the PC online through the night and I'll just see what happens. If it still won't work fine I'll change my modem/electricity cable.
