THE music industry will push for more than $1 billion in damages after its landmark court victory over internet music pirates Kazaa. The Sydney-based internet file-sharing company has had $30 million of its assets frozen as record companies try to recoup some of the estimated $3 billion lost in pirated music. "Given the value of the music ripped off was several billion dollars, the damages claim will be substantial," Music Industry Piracy Investigations spokesman Michael Speck said yesterday. "It's about sending a message to illegal operators that they cannot get away with taking other people's work." Yes will if they have 30 million frozen that's probably all they're going to get. I highly doubt Kazaa has $1 billion. But this isn't about the money it's about power and using that power to stay in power. If they loose control they loose everything. Kind of like Saddam Hussein only more evil.

The RIAA just won't give up. They think it is a victory attacking Kazaa but it is the beginning of a very long struggle. A struggle that I believe will go on for many years. For one, I stopped using Kazaa a long time ago due to the amount of spyware that is placed on your computer. Their are tons of filesharing applications out there. In the time it takes them to shut down another Kazaa like company many more will pop up. The RIAA will never be able to fully recoup their losses and I'm afraid the losses are only going to get bigger.
