This one is for the loony books, but if it proves true I think we're in for big changes in the industry. Atom Chip Corp. is promising to show off a laptop with their new 6.8GHz CPU, which would be impressive enough if it weren't for the laptop's other key feature: a "Quantum-Optical" hard drive with a terabyte of solid state non-volatile storage. If this is what I think it is, the speed advantage over traditional hard drives should be monumental.

IF this is a true story, it would be awesome. But how would a company that nobody has even heard of, manage to suddenly come out with a 6.8 ghz CPU chip that is faster than anything either Intel or AMD is currently producing? To me, that seems a little far fetched.
And then you say that they have also come out with a faster hard drive? I guess this new hard drive is supposed to be faster than a 10,000 rpm western digital SATA drive, huh? Still a stretch.
So I guess this will be big news and be on all the technology sites if it is true. But if it is NOT, then it will fizzle out and people will realize that it was just a big, fat lie.
sorry, wrong forum!
I highly doubt that the technologies that are supposed to be displayed are more advanced than the likes of those by intel or AMD. Both companies probably have comprable technologies, but they probably aren't cheap enough yet to produce on a mass scale.

what about that law saying we can only go up x amount in speed in x time or somthing?
it's a big prank. Look at the fucking website, it's pretty amateur oh and the pictures are fairly low quality too.
Totally a prank. I know a shoddy photoshop layer when I see it.
I remember thinking that 1 gig HDDs were fucking insanely useless (what to do with all that space)Originally Posted by zpman

It all seems insane until you actually need it.,

A world of invisible people. We pass them without seeing them, as casually and indifferently as we pass our own reflections in store front windows. Do they really live among us? Or are they citizens of another country, a vast and teaming gulag of the dispossessed. No, don't turn away. Look in their faces. Do you see your brother? Your mother? An old friend? Someone you went to school with? Someone you once loved? No? You didn't see them? Not today. Tomorrow you could.
the reason for the low quality images are .
1. bandwidth if the image was high quality for it's size then the file would be several megs and i doubt any dialup users want to download a 5 meg jpg file.
2. low quality makes it not worth hotlinking and or stealing the image for their site especially art shops selling posters someone can download the image from the site and not have to buy the poster.
most nv ram is used in the firmware section of hardware and is only a few k to a few hundred k and it takes several minutes to flash firmware so having a tb of firmware type ram would be the same as a audio cassette being able to hold a gig ( remember in the 70's and 80's computers recorded to normal audio cassettes like the same ones you used to play in walkmans and boom boxes and used by older answering machines? they only may have held a couple k maybe 100k or something.)
