    im new here, please help

i looked at a lot of help topics on the internet, and i still get slow downloads using bitcomet (even slower before using bitlord). while some people brag about 100+kb/s, im happy if i ever get 20+kb/s. i average about 8kb/s. sometimes, i can be downloading at 1-3kb/s, while im uploading at 40-50kb/s. anyways, i tried a variety of different ways that are said to improve your speeds. i had my global max upload rate set at the default unlimited, but then i was told to use 80% of my upload rate, so i checked it on a bandwidth site, and conifgured my rate accordingly. still, not improving. i heard about listening ports, and how i should add a '1' to make it a number 1 digit longer. well, still same problem. i checked with bitcomet and my windows firewall doesnt conflict with it. anyways, so i was wondering if anyone can give me some direct help to my problem. that would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a router and is it port forwarded? Are you sure you gave your windows firewall permission?

well, i dont have a router. and yes, bitcomet is allowed by my firewall, along with another port i added like another guide told me to, and called it bitcomet. and i did the NAT check or whatever its called, and it says that its okay. the only firewall i have is the windows xp one. oh yeah, and im using SP2.
as far as seeders go, it says under the "seed/peer [all]", one of the files im dl'ing slowly, it says "1/40 [9/2534]". as far as modem goes, im not sure about the type. all i know is that its rogers highspeed internet (seeing as im in canada). if you need anything else, please tell me (speeds, etc.)

Try another client perhaps I just switched to http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ with no problems at all I am currently downloading at 200kps also try looking for downloads with a lot of seeds. The more seeds the faster the download.

Lookit, if you dont have many seeders you will PROB NOT have much speed.

Wait till youve used your client longer to get a feel for things.

Just go find ANY torrent that has zillion seeders, and good ratio, try it.

Also, dont lead us to believe its bad, if you are also streaming media, or using another client at the sametime.

the thing is that azareus just wont connect. i dl the file, and 10 min later, it still will have the same red face that says that i haven't connected to any users. its totally screwed up.

ok, and i also went to www.dslreports.com/stest and it said:

Your download speed : 601765 bps, or 587 kbps.
    A 73.4 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 101992 bps, or 99 kbps.

for the record, this test was taken in IE while bitcomet was running, and i am aware that the upload speed isnt so hot. i recall taking this test some time ago and it was higher. maybe this is the problem?

No, it would be higher if you werent doint BT at the same time.

Is this your home, business, campus?

You added the listening port for this, right?

last night, one of my torrents peaked at around 90kb/s, which is incredibly high for me. then, it dropped suddenly to 8kb/s, and then picked up and stayed at around 12kb/s. i still dont know why this is happening, and why my upload speed is MUCH higher than my download speed. any further help would be greatly appreciated, as i have yet to find the problem.

Sounds to me like you need to try Shareaza: bittorrent for noobs. It will most likely solve your problem.

i know its not fun to repeat answers, but ive seen other posts, and i havent found any answers that help. im not trying to be difficult, but i still havent been given an answer, just questions. i understand that its important to get a lot of information to answer my problem, but i think that i have given enough information on my situation, and i don't personally think switching to another client will help.
