Yea. Black Viper friggen rocks. I was so sad when his site was down, as I was waiting on a reinstall. Now I can finally tweak my services again.
I'm not even supposed to be here today!

Not everything that comes out of BlackViper's mouth is good advice. Don't get me wrong though, some of it is very helpful.

Some of the info he provides on certain services is just wrong, or silly.

Interesting. Can you give some examples?

Actually, let me just redirect you to this excellent, well-summarized, well-researched thread over at Ars Technica:

    http://episteme.arstechnica.com/eve/...m=964006884631

If you will take the time to compare this information to that of BV's, you will find some considerable differences in some cases.

In regards to BV, and Ars Technica

Those of you that have been here a while know that I send people to both sites. Working for MS doesnt qualify anyone to be an expert on every one of these services, but I have worked in the indusry a long time, and in an enterprise environment where many of these services are useful and designed for.

I've put as much research as anyone in to qualifying whether a SERVICE is a benifit or requirement in home use. The bottem line on SOME of it is, that it just depends.

So BV will have his take on whether a SERVICE should be set to manual etc, and Ars Tecnica will have theirs. There are some pretty obvious yes and no's, but some are a bit iffy, and I dont see where it disqualifies either.

We are of like minds in that, Krell.

Personally I would advise anyone who wants to mess with services to reconsider. It really is more trouble than it's worth, and with modern PCs, makes very little difference.
