Hey, I'm building a cheap computer!!

It's for my sister, she has an old pc (athlon 800, 192mb ram, 80gb hard drive, nvidia vanta pci 16mb).

    I'm gonna build her this:
    http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/...N%27S+COMPUTER

She picked out the case because she thinks it looks good. I pieced together the rest. I know its good, and for the price its amazing, but what do you all think?

BTW - she's using the monitor she already has. i'm gonna cannabalize the cd burner and hard drive she has.

That's it for now. This list will be updated whenever I feel like it.

The motherboard has an onboard Radeon X300(?) and sound, so those are done and done.

Good for a cheap system but be warned the graphics suck big time. And there is limited expansion capability with the 3 pci slots. Also the cpu has very low L2 cache (128k) so dont expect decent performance from it. But all in all decent kit if you have no money and currently own a piece of crap.

There's an old saying, you get what you pay for. I would up the budget by $50 and get a better motherboad. You dont have to get a video card now, but why get a motherboard that you cannot install upgraded components? The motherboad should be a serious focus of your project, get one that can be expanded and will allow for upgrading.

I would also consider upping the CPU budget by $50 and getting something halfway decent.

Expansion doesnt look like an issue. Who in all honesty uses more than 3 pci slots. It has a PCI-Express slot for a video card, and 3 pci slots. Lets say I wanted to upgrade... I could put in...
    - XFX GeForce 6800GT
    - Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
And even upgrade the processor (Athlon 64 3700+), the system would dominate, and still have 2 pci slots left.

She doesnt play games (best onboard video money can buy). She listens to pop music (hence onboard sound, and she doesnt care how bad the speakers are).

I dont know if this would help any, or if it offers any real savings. Its a post office deal. I cant see them asking you anything relevent in working for post office or obtaining any information other then billing and shipping.
