I've downloaded two movies using newsgroups. Once they were done downloading I ran the .par2 files, and they said the download was complete. When I run the movies on my computer, they run just fine. But once I burn them to a DVD and put them in a DVD player the screen does a sliding motion down. So a frame will slide off the screen going down, and a new one will takes its place and so on. It is the movie playing, but its doing a wierd slide motion and I have no clue why.
I used nero OEM, version: 6.3.1.23 which is BRAND new that came with my DVD burner (BENQ). I used the "Burn DVD-Video files" option from nero. I put the following files listed below in the "VIDEO_TS" folder on the DVD.
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_01_5.VOB
I also tried just burning them as a data disk, and it does the same exact thing with the sliding motion. I know the files are fine because the .par2 said they were and they run fine on my computer. This happened to two different movies posted by different people. Any help would be great!
Thanks,
KrUm
What format are the movies, NTSC or PAL, and does your stand alone DVD player play both?

I want to know what you are trying to view these moves with?
WMP?
Try viewing them with other DVD playing software, including Nero, VLC, WMP Classis, Cyberlink Power DVD etc
report back
.
Exactly use any of the aforementioned players. If the vob files play o.k. then they should play on dvd player if burnt correctly.Originally Posted by Krell

Not sure if that matters, they have been conferted to .VOB... and if it does, I am not sure which it was. I tried it on two DVD players, one is a new DVD burner (for the TV). So I am pretty sure its not the DVD players.

Well like I said, on my computer the movie views perfectly fine. Its when they are burned on a DVD the DVD player doesn't play it right.

O...k..... then, start there. What media are you using? DVD+R, or the DVD-R? DVD-RW?
Your home player, whats the model#, are you certain you can view the DVD you burned on it? Supported? I am leaning toward incompatability.
Try burning it again, on a known good media that your DVD home player supports, and this time use the Nero Express > and add under the "VIDEO_TS" folder.

That is where I was leaning. I used to have a player that wouldn't play PAL only NTSC format. If it's not his media and he doesn't know, I would open the .ifo with .ifoedit and find out what format it is.Originally Posted by Krell

I agree, but since im not 100% positive that his symptom is one that PAL would exibit, im just trying to eliminate all the possibilities one at a time. Now he has what he needs to verify this, maybe he will find the answer.Originally Posted by mfgbypooter

Well I'm not sure either but I went barking up that tree as it would be easy to eliminate or confirm it as the source of the problem without burning a bunch of coasters. And I do know that Pal and NTSC are different resolutions and frame rates, so if his DVD players don't render both of them properly then something will be fucked up. My old player would play a PAL dvd but it was basically unwatchable. And I've seen the .ifo's of PAL movies edited to play as NTSC but they sure wouldn't play right on my player either. The only real way to convert PAL to NTSC is to re-encode which is not easy to do properly without the right software.

www.vcdhelp.us look at the tutorial on dvdsrhink. When using it there is an option to select a folder make a folder and put those corosponding files in it after doing that select the from folder option once you do that it should be self explanitory id go into futher detail but im tired ill most likely edit this post in the morning

How to I convert it to another media? Not really sure how to even check to see what kind it is in the first place, lol.
Tell us the what format the movie is, if its pal or NTSC. Download bitrate viewer and load up one of the VOB files and it will say pal or ntsc.. Some dvd players or tv wont play either or depending on the region your at and the format of the DVD. Use DVD santa to burn the files as well and use a slower speed like 2.4x and see if that works properly.
First, go to http://www.ifoedit.com/ to download IfoEdit utility, look into IFO file to see the movie is in PAL or NTSC format. If your movie is in PAL format, but your DVD Player only support NTSC format then you'll need to convert the movie to NTSC format! (Note: There are DVD Players & TVs that can display both PAL & NTSC formats, check first!)
To convert between formats, personally I use TMPGEnc Studio's TMPGEnc DVD Author. TMPGEnc is not free, but it has one of best MPEG/MPG tools available!
If you are really interested in PAL to NTSC conversion I have a complete installer kit for it.
BeSweet, DVD2AVI, Bitrate Viewer, Softencode, BatchCCEWS, AVISynth, Soundforge, CCE, Adobe Audition, TMPGnc DVD Author and AC3 sound plugin, with the guides to get it done right.
If interested just PM me.
