    IE 7.0's bells and whistles

NEW YORK — Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer browser has been showing signs of aging. Over the past few years, the company has made security improvements and added a pop-up blocker but not much else.

That's about to change as Microsoft prepares IE 7, a major update that, in its early incarnation, plays catch-up with newer browsers for the Windows operating system, including Opera Software ASA's Opera and the Mozilla Foundation's Firefox.

The early version of IE 7, called Beta 1, was released largely for software developers to test for compatibility, so it lacks many planned features. More will come in Beta 2, expected later this year.

They might catch up, but will always be last place.

Well, playing devils advocate. I dont know about that, as they have a large percentage of the market, and the flaws that are reported are only because its worth hacking. Firefox is not as widely used, and not as big a target. I agree they are slow adding features, but most people just want something that works out of the door. They dont want to have to learn what features they want, and how to add them. IE, click next syndrome.

i think the real thing that is bad about IE is that it still works without flaw. just because it has a shitload of back doors doesnt mean that it isnt useable. it would be better if the whole program ran like the swiss-cheese that its security is like: that way no one would use it, and no one would have to hate what is otherwise a functional program.
Here's Britney Spears' private jet... The gulf stream 3 doesn't even have a remote control for its surround sound DVD system. Still think downloading music for free isn't a big deal?
