    don your tinfoil hats

    the guy on fox news was just talking about how "scotland yard may have thwarted a terrorist attack on parliament... blah blah blah"

    the interesting thing was that he said "police discovered encrypted emails containing information that led them to believe that parliament may have been at risk..."

    So now the British police have not only discovered a way to decrypt (presumably PGP) encrypted email, but are already doing it en masse? Reminds me of the book digital fortress by Dan Brown, in which the US gov. had a giant computer capable of decrypting PGP emails in minutes, which it did, to emails from suspect sources.

    ... crazy stuff.

    hmm cracking interesting topic

    =============================
    dont mind my ranting thanks
    on a side note something that wasnt suspose to be cracked was cracked. *someone i know is my hero*i wont get into it but its great man life surely is awesome
    btw there are certain things that would take along time to crack if u use like 3 or 4 different tools to protect a file u dont want to be cracked, it wont be cracked. *well depends on said file that u encrpting and the level of protection, and even then it would be not crackable, thats depending on circumstances and dedication of the cracker or the person involved who needs such info, and it would take a long time again, and once again it would be impossible to crack such program, file, etc. *believe me * its not what its all cracked up to be :)

    hmm on another side note, if said thing was being cracked it was because it didnt need prying eyes and that file or etc was suspose to be protected from prying eyes because it would take alot of time to decrypt said something that someone encrypted, and with much do respect it wont be cracked unless u took the time to do such thing and by that time it wouldnt matter, and then their is the position of self deletion etc.

    that is great tho

    I dont think its interesting at all, you are only assuming from half a sentence that the emails encryption were broken when no where does it say that or how they were discovered which could be in a variety of ways than the one that you outlined. From that your imagination runs away with it.

    well british police are allowed to break encryption like this.. the question is whether they are or not. American police aren't allowed to (aka - the law says we cant but who cares), but even if they did, PGP would presumably take a very long time to crack because you must brute force that large key.

    No they dont, they call PGP, tell them they are the fucking government, have a warrent, and then use an alternate key, you think they are not demanded to allow this provision from governement? You must think all governements are backwoods fucktards.

    But even IF that were not the case, the traffic is sniffed, and the cracking begins, with a lot more computing power than youve ever seen.
