    Hi@all!
Finally I have sold my old PC and bought a Laptop :icon_king After installing WinXP and all the other stuff I created a W-LAN. Then I installed Shareaza, but it didn't work . Then I installed Azureus, Limewire, Emule etc., but all these tools didn't work, too (Error message in Shareaza: couldn't connect to XY (refused) Where's the Problem??? Firewall is turned off and I don't have a router. Please help!

Well...I dunno much about WLAN's...but I still imagine there'd be a setup page where you could forward ports?...can you give more detail about the configuration?

You created the W-LAN, you created the problem, you should research it.

I am quite lost here what exactly did you network? You said you have a LAN but no router, so what exactly is networked?

If you dont have a router, you dont have a wlan. Just because your laptop supports it dosent mean it magically has an internet connection. The wlan has nothing to do with the laptop, its just a client. You need a wireless router to create the lan.

I have a ISP (if you mean the Internet Service Provider)

My brother (he's living next door) and me have created (I'm not sure if this is the correct word) the W-LAN. The server (with the internet connection) is located in his house. We are connected through a few Acesspoints (from D-Link) There is a Firewall, but all ports are open (of course just for testing, if the Firewall is the problem) And I have SP2 installed but the Windows Firewall is turned off. Are these enough details?

I'm not stupid :green5 (you can easily see that the W-LAN works: I'm surfing on this site, while I'm sitting outside in the garden :icon_thum )

Alright...first of all, you are mistaken, no access point has "all ports open" unless it's asking for it...second off, first you say you have no firewall, then you say you have one?...check again about the ports, I strongly believe you're wrong.

xthealmightyx people are just messing with you

I simply do not believe that you have properly forwarded the ports for you IP address on your laptop. Make sure you have a static IP address, or that you have the ports forwarded for all address 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.5 etc.

Which ports? Obvioulsy port 80 traffic is not a problem, so we can contend with connectivity etc. The Clients, however, use various ports, and you need to read each of them to know what ports.

I use BitSpirit, and I use port 24591 every day, unless I deem otherwise. When I decide to use another port, I will edit my rule in the firewall. What I CAN NOT DO is to have it use random ports. If your firewall also blocks all UDP traffic, that could be a problem.

You may also want to select that your client use NAT if that is an option. Remember that you have 2 connection on your laptop, ethernet LAN and W-LAN, so when you are configuring your firwall etc, on your laptop, chose the correct one. Sygate has a drop down to chose which, and people often miss that.

    hope this helps

Thx for your help. First about the Firewall: There are 3 Firewalls (I'm sure, that there is no other FW) The first one is installed on the server (I'm not sure about the configuration of this PC, because it's not mine - but I can ask my brother if you have some questions about it - the only thing I know is that every incoming and outgoing data is going about this Computer and that this FW is not the problem, because we opened all Ports and it didn't work) The second one is the Service Pack 2 Firewall. It's turned off. The third one is the Acesspoint's Firewall. It's turned off, too. I hope these infos are helpful. I don't understand what you say about the Acesspoint. Please explain.

    Greetings

What is port forwarding? (sorry, may be a stupid question)

Yes, but because all ports of the Firewall are open it doesn't mind which ports the clients use

What is UDP traffic (sorry again for a stupid question ;-) )

    I have no Sygate Firewall.
When I make a port test in Azureus it says: NAT Fehler (what means NAT error in english) Perhaps that's the problem?

Are you using Internet Connection Sharing? Why are you mentioning a server?

Lookit, you want this to work, go buy an inexpensive wireless router with ethernet ports, and just be done with it. That way you can hook up the access point, and be wired or wireless, without some convaluted disarray.

The ISP connection, DLS etc, goes to the router. The router goes to the PCs and the Access Point. Your laptop connects to the access point.
