Microsoft reveals pricing for Xbox 360 console
    Wed Aug 17, 2005 2:57 PM BST

LEIPZIG, Germany (Reuters) - Microsoft's (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research) new Xbox 360 game console will retail for $299 in the United States and will be out "in plenty of time for the Christmas market," European home and entertainment head Chris Lewis said.

Microsoft, which is racing rivals Sony (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) and Nintendo Co. Ltd (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) to get its new console to market, said on Wednesday the Xbox 360 would sell for 299 euros in Europe and 209 pounds in Britain.

Including accessories, the prices would be $399, 399 euros and 279.99 pounds, Lewis told journalists at Europe's biggest computer games fair in Leipzig, Germany.

Microsoft has yet to give an exact date for the launch.

The company added that it would reveal pricing for the Japanese market at the Tokyo games fair next month.

Sounds like pretty fair pricing to me, considering how powerful the hardware is a loaded system at $399 is a great deal...

Yeah not a bad price. I think I'm going with the bundled system. The 20 gb hard drive is 99$ to buy alone.

Definately and add in the wireless controllers as well, quite a nice deal. However I wonder what happens if you dont want wireless, how many wired ports will there be?

Interesting, I also heard that only Microsoft can make wireless controllers, 3rd party companies can only make wired. If there is only 1 port, it sure seems to limit the 3rd party maket then, huh? Sure will be interesting to see what happens..

A lot of repetitive posts are better summed up by using the EDIT feature, then paste in more relavent (or irrelavent) information

Sorry about all the posts. I'm sure companies like Logitech will be able to make wireless controllers for the 360. http://xbox360.ign.com/ has a lot of info.

The premium package includes an Xbox 360, a detachable 20-GB hard-drive, a wireless controller, faceplate, headset, a component HD AV cable, an Ethernet cable, and for a limited time, a remote controller.

299 is the price of PS2 and xbox when they hit the USA market..Seeing how they are more sophesticated and that there be alot of third party support.. One wire port, there may be multitab.. or remember the 3do system? They had each control to plug into the one before that.

Microsoft is not leaving open liscence for third party wireless controllers untill 2007. Wired third party controllers should be available shortly after launch.

$399 sounds like a price I will sit on and build my current generation collection with. There are still a TON of game for this generation I haven't touched, due to being a cheap bastard.

The consoles could be €1000 each, but they WILL still be bought no matter what. I reckon the PS3 will be about €500 with the Xbox360 trailing just behind at about €400-450.

Here's the European price list: http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=10913

CAD prices are $399 for the base, and $499 for the complete system which is kind of a rip off as $299 USD is just $364 CAD, so I may have to bootleg an Xbox south of the boarder :D

It seems to be a pleasing price set, even though the industry always tries and aim for this range.
Just hope they don't smudge on the quality of manufacturing the Xbox360...

Says who? You can easily get a 20GB drive for around $20. Heck, for $99 you can get 250GB. In fact, anything over $1/GB is simply rape. $0.50/GB or less is a good price.
