What Movie would you want to remake?

Ok, I know a lot of people seem to hate remakes of old movies but I see nothing wrong with it. Storys have always been retold, sometimes in a better manner sometimes for the worse. Its been going on for thousands of years. Just look at the bible for lawds sake. If a story can be presented in a better form its all good.

Now I would like to know some movies you think could be presented in a better fashion today, all things considered. Like CGI, less strict movie guide lines (IE blood, violence, ect), rewrites, better direction, better actors and so forth.

I would like to do a rewrite of Criton's Westworld.

I have even attempted to write a new script myself but I just can't get what I want out of it. I would like to have Quintin Tarrentino help me and also direct of course. Not sure who would be cast as the Gun Slinger (who is evil looking enough?)

Another Movie or Sequel I would like to make, although it would admittedly end up not being a great movie, would be:

Ferris Bueller's Day Off, From Work. In the movie Ferris is now 40 and trying to get a break from his now horrible kids and nagging wife. Thats the whole outline I have for that one. lol

    What Ideas do you have?

I think the Billy Jack movies definitely need a remake without the hippie shit.

I guess this thread was thought of since the remake of charlie and the chocolate factory blew. Cant mess with a classic. I would like to see a remake of spaceballs, purely for the cast you'd expect!

Thats fine, thats your choice. There are really no new storys though. They are all based on older storys with new characters plugged in and a slight twist added. Its a formula to fool sheep into thinking its a new movie. But all that said, thats not really what I wanted out of this thread. What I want to hear is about some old crappy version of a story that you think could be done better today than it was done originally. Any thoughts?

    No bitching please

Edit: This was in reply to a post now removed, thank you, thank you very much

    OK, I give up.

The only reason you see remakes and sequels is not becuase there arent any new ideas. Its because remakes and sequels already have a recognizable name and tend to make a good profit.

Now, does anyone here have any good idea's on how to make an old movie better by using advanced techniques or being able to show things more realistically than movie makers were allowed in the past.

Star Wars I, II, III can be done better as well as a remake for GIGI.

So many movies have ALREADY been remade, it's tough to think of anything left worth improving on.

I would like to see a remastered Tron using the same film footage but with CGI added.

There are a lot of old sci fi and horror movies that could be done better now days. I will add a list if others can't think of some ideas.

Still, a new WestWorld done with lots more blood and gore would rule.

    Maybe a new Scanners movie.

Actually I just thought of one (it's harder than you think). How about Ghostbusters, I love that movie but obviously compared to todays standards, the graphics sucked. Or the original Terminator remastered. The story kicks ass but with some new ages graphics it would be cool.

Maybe they should take two old mavies and make one crappy one like GhostBusters meets Poltergeist. Something like that.

It is really hard to pick a movie and come up with a new way of telling it. There are a lot of movies where I thought the story was there but the director just didn't know how to tell the story or maybe didnt have the resources to do it right, like Plan 9 from Outer Space (jokingly, it sucks the way it is and I love it!). Classic shit.

It would be hard to recapture the paranoia of emerging technology, government or institutional instability, and the uncertainty of our future, the way they did in the late 60s and early 70s.

West World is an excellent choice . . but im afraid they would cast Vin Deisel as the freakin robot gone berserk.

Saturn 3, Silent Running, The Andromeda Strain, The Omega Man, Rose Marys Baby, Race with the Devil, the list goes on.

Look what they did with War of the Worlds? They pussed it down with Cruse and Fanning, lost the audience with meaningless philosophical rant, and came to the same anticlimatic ending as the first one.

At least the Planet of the Apes 2000 TRIED to do something better!!

Remaking "Dukes of Hazard" is a waste of film that should premiere at Blockbuster

We could remake Dirty Harry movies, but the studios wouldnt do that, they might OFFEND someone. We have no more Clint Eastwoods, or Raquel Welchs, or Gene Hackmans.

You are so right, they would want to put Vinny in that role and it would suck if that happened. I'm having a hard time thinking of a good evil cowboy, Cameron crow keeps coming to mind but I don't think he would fit, just not evil enough. I can almost see this movie in my mind, I want to write it so bad but my skills are lacking. Dialog is hard!

As for 'The Andromeda Strain', that would be great! But alas, Ben Aflec would get cast and the movie would be ruined.

I saw the Omega Man for the first Time a few months ago, nice flick. The ending really blew but all ending an't be happy eh. I'm sure if it was made today the hero , well you know.

    Great Ideas ---

I didn't think War of the Worlds was that bad, a real popcorn flick. Not a great film by any means but good summer fluff. The Best CGI to date.
