Dr Divx no longer makes housecalls

    The Doctor is out!

I know some hard core people will blast me for this but I really liked this program. It was very user friendly and worked well. I think it sucks its no longer available and why the change I do not know. The new Divx converter which I'm trying right now as I write this seems to be very lacking in any sort of features once so ever. Not even a crop feature is to be found. I'm now waiting to see how good the converter will work with Divx6 before I uninstal it.

Does anyone think that now that divx has dropped the Dr that maybe some free (legal)versions will pop up? I never had any luck with the cracked versions, so a free version would be nice.

Like Dr. DivX, the new DivX Converter is not free. I've not use Dr. DivX in a long time, but new DivX Converter now support Dolby Digital audio & should continue to be improve with new features since it is not a free converter. Who knows, it might becomes a better converter than Dr. DivX!

I have to say, after encoding 5 different movies, Divx6 is really amazing! I was put off a bit by other people telling me it was still crap and Xvid was God but after trying it out I know better. All the movies I ripped were done in one pass and are of kick ass quality! I am truely amazed at this codec. Usualy it takes many weeks of tweaking a new codec to get it to encode right but with Divx6 its no hassle. The movies looked great even coming in at around 650 megs. I can't stress enough has bad ass Divx6 is, Xvid fanboys can suck on it, I use what works best and this is it!!!!!

Xvid can probably whip Divx6's ass, but its a more complex program. You've gota take some time to understand the myraid of options available in it in order to get the most out of it. Far as Dr.Divx goes, yeah it was a prety damn sweet program for making divx backups of my dvd's. Or it was till I got a dvd burner.

Ive been shown by people who have xvid tweaked to perfection, still its no contest, believe me. Divx6 is the best compression I have ever seen. A quality one pass rip is unheard of, but Divx6 did it. An hour and a half and it was done! Freakin' crazy! I would like to tweak it for awhile and see how far I can push it and maintain a quality video. I bet before long I will be able to rip a full mvie into a 400meg file with almost no loss of quality. Its really that good, check it out for yourself and do not take my or anyone elses word on it. The people I deal with are very strict and are always shouting about Gordians Knot and Xvid, when I first said anything about Divx6, they said its crap! Viva Xvid! Its open source blah blah blah! Now I know those fuckers didn't even try it. Theyre just fanboys. I hate when people won't even try something before giving an opinion!

This codec is truely awesome. I can't say enough about it. Xvid has alot of catching up to do.

I went from Xvid to Divx 6 and I am very impressed with the quality. I use virtualdub to get all the options out of the codec anyway.

Im impressed over the last couple months.. AVI and MPEG files that are compressed to 720 megs or more, can be decompressed to over 4.7gig to burn to dvd.. They arent throwing away or getting rid of data, but compressing it without lossing any. Very nicely done.

definitely not correct, MPEG is already heavilly compressed, the newer codecs are much better than MPEG so trancoding MPEG>divx6>MPEG does look pretty good, but still not the same as pure DVD quality.

Why do people still need to convert to divx?

    DVD burners are cheap now.

    There are many reasons.

If you have a Divx playing Stand alone DVD player and one of those cheap DVD burners, you can fit a buttload of shows on one DVD.

Divx is just a better form of compression and since most people internet speeds are still not able to download a DVD quickly, better compression means faster times to download movies and TV shows.

If you have a capture card, capping in Divx format saves a hell of a lot of space. I like to keep hundreds of movies on my hard drives so I can watch anythng I want at anytime. In MPEG this would nearly impossible.

I also convert a lot of shows and movies that are impossible to find on DVD. Capping them in Divx format not only saves me disc space, its a lot faster sending them to my pals.

There are more reasons why but I'll stop there. I'm sure you see my point
