Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 Available

I have been trying out and testing the Beta 1 version of IE7 under XP SP2 for a few days now and I must say I have no complaints. New tab feature is great, "phishing filter" works nicely and there hasn't been one crash yet. All in all, it's pretty good so far! Anybody else tried it out?
An interesting and fresh feature in Internet Explorer 7 (Beta). “Phishing” has become one of the top problems in our internet lives, just like viruses, trojans and most of all spyware. We, users, mainly find “Phishing” in our emails, where spammers take advantage in acquiring our personal details and login details of popular websites. Microsoft made it a priority to help solve this problem by including this element in IE 7 (Beta).

What you mentioned is about all they have changed so far.

It still renders a lot of valid HTML and CSS improperly. I will be more interested to see Beta 2.

It's kind of sad - with the large user base that IE has, MIcrosoft could really improve the world's surfing habits and make it easier for everyone - but, then again, this is what happens when you have a monopoly...

But, honestly, I can't really consider IE a worthy browser until it can render all pages correctly - with all the money and talen that Microsoft has, there's no excuse for not being up to standards (other then they're lazy)

I, personally, kinda like it. Kind of like Opera and Kind of like firefox but still IE. It takes a little getting used to.

Clearly the voice of a shrewd man.

Actually I did download IE7, but during the install it wants to connect to microsoft to verify my copy of windows. I am sure there is a workaround for this, but I can't be bothered to look for it.

Not that there is anything dodgy about my copy of windows of course. I was just concerned about the *ahem* privacy implications.

Anyway, as cpu said this just sounds like the old IE6 engine with tabbed browsing; something which is already done just fine by any number of shell extensions.

I think the biggest improvement I would like is for microsoft to abandon the active X component of their browser which is really the source of all the malware trouble IE users run into. I would also like to see MS embrace a more standards compliant approach; however that won't happed.

BTW - nice screen shot there auggie2k

You are 100% correct. It doesn't.

Beta 1 won't work on SP1 according to Microsoft

    From http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/default.mspx:
"Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 is available now in two versions: a standalone version for Windows XP Service Pack 2, and an enhanced version that is built into Beta 1 of Microsoft Windows Vista—formerly Windows code-named “Longhorn”—to take advantage of new features of the Windows Vista platform."
