Question what is better than vlc *video lan player*

is there any client out on the net that is free and also better than video lan client? I believe this client is really good in all, but some things are just missing and i can't put my finger on it! It lacks some of the features that i liked in winamp.:icon_rr: Are there any other programs out there that are better than vlc is what i am asking? thanks for the responses in advanced:icon_shak

VLC is great if you want to be able to play virtually anything with little or no configuration. Some people swear by using media player 6.4 or its 3rd party look alike, Media Player Classic. With those however, you will also have to install codecs.

Unless you desperately need a feature that VLC doesn't have, I suggest you stick with it.

As gaining referred, included with the K-Lite mega codec pack is Media player classic, it's the best video player out there. On the contrary... VideoLAN is great, yet great for LAN (VideoLAN is all about streaming video, not necesserally viewing it). Though indeed it will play ''anything'' well... mostly anything, considering if you have the K-Lite mega codec pack installed, media player classic will play technicaly everything. Finally, the best thing about Media player classic is the fact it uses the least memory and CPU power, and being released as Open-Source since '98', it's been 'tweaked' to perfection for stability ect ect.

Can anyone get the skins to work on the new VLC versions? They have some kick ass skins but none of them work on the new versions for me.

I am a huge VLC fanboi and will not try anything else anymore. Nothing sucks worse than having lots of different players installed mucking up the video playback. Its just asking for trouble IMO.

I would like VLC better if it played MKV files like it's supposed to. I have not been able to play one MKV file properly with VLC. It's not the files, as I am able to play it with GOM player. While GOM plays it better, it's still not great. Any suggestions?

I dunno. VLC plays MKV files perfectly on my PC.

@Feather, for some reason MPC performs like a POS on my pc. It will not play HD movies well and with some movies the audio becomes out of sync but with VLC everything plays perfectly.

I have gotten rid of all other media players and only use Media Player Classic and wxMusik
I have gone for simplicity instead of resource hungry

I use both VLC and Media Player Classic. They both have their positives and negatives but I like MPC better. The one little thing I don't like about VLC is that you can't stop and start the video you are watching by clicking anywhere on the screen with the mouse like you can in MPC. I know it's very minor but convenience is nice too.

I like MPC a lot but ive been having problems with large files. It doesn't seem to handle them well. Especially HD movie in true 720p or higher. VLC plays HD movies with ease and never frane stutters at all. Ive tried everything to get MPC to improve on HD playback but it will not work properly on my PC. I guess its my PC if everyone else is playing HD movies well with MPC.

you can't stop and start the video you are watching by clicking anywhere on the screen with the mouse like you can in MPC
You could set the pause key as the left mouse button. Just a suggestion.

EDIT! I actually tried this and it would not set to the left mouse button for some reason. I tried it using the "Mouse wheel" and it works. When I scroll down on the mouse wheel it pauses. I dunno if that helps any.

I guess I hadn't looked into changing any of the settings, lol. I only use it when MPC can't play something or for some reason has streaks down the screen during playback which has happened a few times lately for some reason.

Thanks for the info, it'll make using VLC just like MPC now. :)
