    New Ants SSL Alpha Version.

Gwren has created a new version of ants designed to make P2P transfers resemble banking transfers. It uses something called SSL to make this happen. The benefit of this is that ants will be able to work behind all College and Corporate firewalls.

Gwren has been away to college for the last few months. Durring that time he has not been able to develope ants due to "jail" like firewalls as he discribed it to me. You has spent his time trying to find a way to get Ants to work under those conditions. Yesterday he broke new ground when he was able to connect with me for the first time from his campus. Today he made some addtional modifications and would like me to enlistthe help of about 5 other people to test this Alpha version. You must be able to run ants on port 443 to participate on this test. This version of ants will use only ONE port.

Contact me via PM and I will send you the file.

    Hi Tsafa and everybody !
I was thinking about a test for ANTS. By exemple, we could choose one day and decide that we will all download the same file(s).
So we could test ANTS in multi-source situation and check how that work with a registrar-board on a site.
Exemple : we have choose two files :
    - The Open CD (tools anf free softs)
    - a Linux live CD (exemple)
I (or you or another person) host this files : I can do that.
Everybody start download the same day. But before we use tools like Nellimiter and Online Eye for collect statistic informations.
When a personn has ended the download, he/she send and post the results (time for download, total upload ...) on Internet.
The name of the operation ? ANTS reloaded.
This idea can be announced on sites and maybee that will atract new users...
What do you think about that ?

sounds good. Given that today is the 4th of July, I will be available for much of the day. I am using netlimiter myself and so is Gwren. It is more acurate then then internal meters. My ICQ # is 308-859-271.

The only thing we need to do is figure out on how to emulate a college firewall. Gwren is behind one right now so he can test , but me and you are not.

I am behind a firewall and a router, so I don't know if is exactly like being behind a college firewall/proxy but I think it is the same case. ;)

regaurding if you have to forward the port number 443 to your router... No

    Gwren said this:

    Gwren (03:49 PM) :
I'm working on issues. ANts should be able to find its way out (but the current version misses a library... so it doesn't), also there are problems with proxies... I solved them, but I need to put up the update...

    - the sentence " ażou ar ebehind a firewall .. nat .. " has to be changed, if 443 is working, then please, write : "your ar ebehind a firewall or a nat, so please give prot 4567 free or ants will use port 443 isntead."

    - status was: ants search has to be better

    - request was: to make direct ants hybrid with jmule.

only then we will get users. if ants is a fully edoneky-server-client.

thanks. woudl be good to hear something about the time and if or not.

yes speeds are great, though it is not prooved, if it is a direct neighbour load.
search is still a mess up ! no results and too slow as ever, though supernodes are in.
we need a hybrid with emule javamule in direct modus - this is the next bist step after the searches.
fine that every few days an update is coming, gwren is doing good work, imagine how often he has compled all... but... we need not nitty gritty fixing, we need working searches and as well a connection to emules huge media base.
Zeropaid has just disabled the new releases, The programms for p2p are fixed now, there will come nothjing new, there is ares gnutella and edonkey and some smaller entworks like winmx or so.
some clients have some features more etc,. but the market is devided and solid.#
So only limewire needs a connection to emule or g2, then the networks are all toogether performing 2,. generation.
And this means: a monopol, which is easy ti beat: many users do not share, releasing is highly dangerous ...
so ants is needed more than ever, i think we cannot wait, till emule is dropping server contact and users are not sharing, we need the emule java hybrid with ants now.
Searches can be what they are, if searches are done in direct modus from an emule server.
so... if once a source is in ants network, somehow the searchw ill perform, even if lousy.
so my priority to vote for, is to integrate a emule connection in java.
the question is, if it is only hybird as a parralell program under one gui with common partials,
OR IF ANTS HYBRID IS ABLE TO DOWNLOAD FOR AN ANTS NODE; so that the HYBRIDS ARE PROXIES FOR EDONEKY - this means a very advanced approach, gwren is not able to do, because he hesitated a lot. Dont think that he is able to make a ants node, which is - in direct modus - able to download for other ants node (direct or not - thats the question) from emules normal nodes media repository partials.
so... i guess the smalle roption will be done, that both networks have in direct ants nodes common partials. But downloading from emuel with an ants proxy node for other ants nodes is a high ly difficult to code net.
