Hey, this is just a real quick question for those of you who are mac users, I am not asking for a guide or anything. I am considering buying a Mac (the key word being considering, and no I don't need anyone to tell me which they prefer, a mac or PC) and I was just wondering how good they are for DVD backups? I know most backup software if for the PC and I am not sure if there is any for the Mac. I am hoping for something with the same funtionalities as the DVDDecrypter with DVDShrink duo. Not something like DVDXCopy.
If not, how well does VirtualPC run? Does it have support for the DVD burners on Macs?
All I am asking for is whether it is possible to produce quality backups on a Mac as this is a primary use of my PC at the moment and it needs to be taken into consideration when I buy. Thankyou very much
Thomas :D

Don't take my word for it, but from what I've heard, really, the only CD burner available is Roxio's Toaster. So, I'm guessing that there really isn't any good DVD decrypting / burning software available for Mac - but hopefully I'm wrong
You need Handbrake (for ripping and decrypting) and Cocktail (for encoding).
Edit: Whoops, just noticed the date :/
A couple of sites I've been working on if you're interested http://www.howtogetfaster.co.uk, [url]http://www.documentaries.me.uk[url] and a new startup http://thelocalseo.co
Just chanced upon this site http://mactheripper.tumblr.com
a good site about how to protect dvd, rip dvd, edit dvd, convert dvd, enhance dvd for mac os (including leopard) users.
you can use parallels and install windows and just dvdshrink etc. i personally havent tried it yet but i do use parallels for other stuff and its pretty fast
You can just use handbrake or mactheripper to clone/copy/backup as many of your DVD's as you like!
You can use "RipIt" to rip them and then deep freeze them into Time Machine. Thats what i do.
whoa, it's an old thread, but it still gets much more attention for this question. For Mac users, it's a headache question to looking for a good ripper software to backup dvd on Mac. I used Handbrake for a long time, it works well. But the only peccadillo is HB can't rip encrypted DVD (Also Need VLC ), I recommend Mactheripper and MacX DVD Ripper Mac Free Edition, both are totally free program for Mac users.
Thank you. I just hope you aren't a spam bot like the 3 hidden/deleted posts before you. Spam bots LOVE to talk about their DVD rippers, but they always suggest ones you have to pay for. If you are a bot, I have to give you props for acknowledging the thread's age and suggesting a free ripper. It's something all bots fail at.
