need some input on new p2p app

***disclaimer, I may not post often, but I am not a noob...plz don't start flaming! I have done some searching and reading but am still wondering about a few of the programs out there. I would rather ask some of you guys for opinions before I clog my puter up with a bunch of crap :)

I have used kazaa, KMD and kazaa lite for years...started using winmx about a year ago and I really need to find something other than those. winmx is annoying me with the way you have to search and the problems d/l ing, I just put kazaa back on my comp today and after finally being able to connect (!!!) I downloaded no less than 50 fake files -- I'm sick of it, and really just want another program.

I'm looking for something simple, I really do like the way kazaa is set up--straight and to the point...keywords, artist or title. I mostly download music (not much luck when I tried to get movies through winmx-but not really a big deal to me anyway). I have highspeed broadband, so speed is not really an issue--but ease of use is...I want to just connect and search--click a button or two and have the song downloading. I have heard that limewire is decent in content and users...what about others?
    TIA
    Amy

Limewire has excellent seach results and would probably be as close a Kazaa gets...except without the fakes. I do recommend Ares as mentioned by MarkB. Between Ares and Limewire you will never miss Kazaa. MarkB's recommendation of KCeasy combines gnutella and Ares with openFT. I am not sure, but I think you can get a Kazaa pluggin for it too. I like the concept, but found limewire out performs this gnutella client. Kceasy use to be buggy, but maybe it's improved since I last used it. Just my opinion, and no offence to MarkB, but I have never liked Piolet.

Yeah, I was really impressed with Limewire. I thought it would just be another p2p program but I found I use it quite alot if I just want to get an odd song here or there. It connects ultra fast and gets results pretty quick too. The download speeds arent half bad either.

You didn't look very hard on the nsane link. Anyway staffie's link will take you exactly to the spot. Don't forget to opt out the spyware when you install Ares. GL

thanks to both of you guys. limewire is up and running and I do like it, similiar to kazaa--easy, quick and painless (thanks to the real files..lol) about the pro question...is there a difference or no?

oh, and one off the wall question--when I unistall kazaa how do I make sure that it doesn't take my music folder? I took it off the upstairs computer and all of a sudden my music folder and all the files were gone :( thankfully I had a backup on the downstairs one and just moved it over. I had assumed that if it were going to remove shared files it would have asked, but didn't...does that make sense or am I going to be handed the dunce hat now?

The difference between the Basic and Pro are here:
    http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml

Anytime you install a P2P program, it will sometimes create a download folder for you at your convenience in the same location as the install folder. But when it comes to uninstalling, some programs will not only remove the program itself but also take your download folder with it. That's why you should always make you own download folder for your files to go into in a separate location so you know they're safe.

The diff between limewire basic and pro is you get 2 more ultrapeers with pro giving you more hits for your search and more sources to dl from.
    hope that helps. :icon_thum

When installing an app, make a new folder or choose an existing location for your downloaded files to go into, so when you uninstall it, it will delete the empty folder it created incase you wanted that to be the default.
