mp3 player freezes with k-lite codec pack

I'm using quintessential player 4.51 and k-lite codec pack full 2.46

Many mp3s downloaded recently freeze my player and don't play at all.
Tried windows media player, same issue.
Upgraded to k-lite 2.47 pack standard, same problem.
Tried this on two pc's running xp pro and one running 2k - same issue

Played the mp3 on another xp machine without k-lite pack and it works. installed k-lite 2.46 and it fails.

    Any ideas ?

I think the k-lite codec pack is the problem.

    Don't use it.

(I just have the xvid codec installed, and haven't run into any files I can't play)

How new is the version of the codec pack you are using?
Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.

    tried 2.47
    same problem.

tried it also on debian sarge distro. doesn't work.

so the mp3 is bad - BUT ...
what's annoying me is that they play ok on a clean win xp install !!!!

If it works on a clean installation of Windows, how is the mp3 bad?

I'm telling you, the codec pack is the problem. Uninstall it and put back individual codecs as needed.

Also, don't expect things to "just work"™ in Linux distributions. (I know they're trying, but some distributions don't include some things you might expect by default, like MP3 support.)

uninstall the codec, clean your registry... the problem is the matroska filter... it fucks with WM streaming and such. Or... maybe you have a virus or something else.
