    A little help with Kerio

    Hi

i have been a long time user of ZAP, infact havent ever used another firewall
but as i started using p2p, my experincwe with ZAP became bitter n bitter

i need a firewall that is "P2P Friendly",

i have been reading older threads here, and 1 of the most popular firewall is kerio, also many users said that kerio 2.51 is better then newer versions of 4x

why is 2.5.1 better than newerer builds

and as i am leaving ZAP behind, am i moving in the right direction

Well I'm running Kerio Personal Firewall 4 and I'm not having any problems with it and P2P nor any filesharing programs. It has locked up once in the past with some Java conflict in my browser..put my comp to a crawl for 10 min..although that's the only conflict I had with KPF 4 so far.

Now the reason why some people like the older 2 version is that it's simpler, smaller footprint, and uses less resources than the later KPF. I used it before as well, but 2.5 doesn't have as many features as 4 like ad-blocking, privacy filters, intrustion detection etc.

If you want a basic barebone firewall, go for Kerio PF 2.5, if you want the other features with a more advanced GUI then go for version 4...

i could use a better gui, but dont want adblock or privacy filters
for now i am sticking with 2.5.1, but might later on try 4.x versions

but it uses only 5.7RAM, after being connected to emule (and kad), and bittorrent for over 10Hrs
    Thats Awesome

vmon.exe went crazy when connected to any p2p, especially emule :drunken_s

Where do you get Kerio Personal firewall 2.5.1? Is that a typo? I've got 2.1.5 and am a bit confused.

The newer 4.x version uses way more system resources than 2.1.5. It's really a completely different firewall. 4.x is a more application based firewall. Less configurable, way more bloat, less options. Stick with 2.1.5.

Make sure you have 2.1.5 set up properly, the default ruleset is a bit slack.

:icon_thum I have been testing this baby since past 4hrs now, and it cleared all possible firewall tests listed on google, and just to make things more interesting i started running upto 3 simultaneous tests, (dsl, grc and pcflank) :icon_boun

and reason why i removed ZAP, was that it was effecting DC++, many a times results wont showup, and and reopening DC++ would work
a little more research, and i found out ZAP has a memory leak issue with emule, i leave emule overnight along with torrents, and vsmon.exe would shoot upto 70mbs,

but with this baby, i have left my comp overnight (10hrs), with emule runnin, and downloading 3 torrents via bitspirit, and in the morning it was using only 5mb Ram, great just great :icon_salu
