    users leaving

i share about 70 gigs of movies on winmx, and used to have regular trading partners. since v3.3, most of the people that i was sharing with have gone away. i haven't been able to be involved in a worthwhile trade for weeks, and i run 24/7.

there seems to be quite a few open nap servers that don't work well with v3.3. i get asked to trade, and i browse and find a file, i want, but when i start the person's upload, it disconnects. so then we go hopping around diff servers, trying to find one that will allow us to trade. sometimes one of us can get the file, but the other keeps disconnecting. these problems started for me with the intro of v3.3.

i'm getting ready to look for a diff p2p platform to do my sharing. hopefully winmx will address some of these problems quickly b4 more users vacate to other platforms.

i don't like kazaa, anybody got any recommendations?

    i agree

winmx is definately starting to get complicated. im also having trouble just getting in someones queue because thats not an option anymore when u right click. also whenever u search about 3/4s of the files are in red and i cant get in queue and even with the green ones theres probably about a 1/8 chance ill get a start download thats if im not disconnected.
ive tried other p2p and so far they really suck so im wondering if this is a legal issue or something which makes it hard for p2p's to work well.

    alternatives

yesterday i went shopping for other p2p programs. i tried kazaalite, sharezaa, and something called splooge. god did they suck. so for the time being i'm going to have to make do with winmx's flaws. hopefully 3.3 is just a minor glitch that will be ironed out with the next release.

    Smile

A lot of people like Grokster.
I do, having been there since the day it started.
It has it's own problems and people moan about it the same as they moan about any other program.
It's not as comprehensive as WinMX, but it's easier to understand.
I FIND more files in WInMX but I QUEUE a lot longer and they don't seem to DL as fast as Grokster when I do get my hands on them, so it's swings and roundabouts.
Give Grokster a try and see what you think. :)

try edonkey. It's pretty good (when u can connect) it could take up to a minute or longer to connect to a server.

    turn out the lights

to the last winmx poweruser... turn out the lights when you leave.

put a fork in me, i'm done.

i've been sharing and trading 70 gigs of movies, and a few mp3s, since v2.6, and i've had enough. all the good powerusers are gone. and all that's left is a bunch of whiny jerks.

i can't believe how many rude messages i get anymore. people telling me to go have sex with myself, because i don't start them. people telling me that i'm an asshole for not trading with them, when they have nothing to trade. it's gone from bad to worse in the last week.

tonight i had a guy message me that he only needed 23 megs to finish his 700 meg d/l. i started him without a trade, and his transfer starts at zero. i message him and ask "what's up with that".... he says "oops, i made a mistake, wanna trade?" and he all he has is incomplete files and mp3s. so i say "thanks, but you don't have anything that interests me"..... and he tells me to "fuck off, ASSHOLE". i guess that's his way of thanking me for trying to be a nice guy.

someone suggested grokster, but it has spyware. someone suggested edonkey, but they want 20 dollars to get rid of the ads.

i think i'll just call it quits for awhile, and check back with winmx in a few months and see if it's improved.

    Direct Connect or DC++

For anyone sharing 70 gigs of files, your best bet, by far, is on the Direct Connect network. Just join a hub that requires a high minimum to share, say like 50 gigs, and you will be in the company of other mega-sharers.

For a spyware/adware free version, the open source DC++ from Sourceforge also allows connections to multiple hubs, but be warned: some hub operators ban it.

Give Direct Connect / DC++ a try. I think it is just what you are looking for.

Maybe its because of that Evil Word (Trade) WinMX is a p2p sharing network...if it wasnt for sharing...there wouldnt be WinMX... People that share keep the network running.... And thats all i got to say about that

    don't call it "trading"--
go to dc, take what you want, and put up what you have--that is the best way to be

trading loses all meaning on dc, since there are few "true" leeches

and of course my hub is

    turtlehead.no-ip.org

i share 80 some gigs, and with the others there it ends up as a 1/2 of a tb (500 gigs)

its a small hub, but gets a few more people every day

How about eMule? It connects to the eDonkey network, it's free, it's open source and I find it very stable (version 0.19c).

i don't care what you share with as long as you have adequate slots 2 0r 3 minimum (more if you are on more hubs) and on less than 10 hubs
