Question mad , pc now after powercut. ive tried, dis wierd

right basicllly i'll get 2 point
    i have prob
im my house, the main switch for the electric supply for whole house(main switch!)
pc was on torrenting, playing music etc..
    anyhows as switch went off/down
pc went boom(all off-smoke coming out of power suppply(in pc-no because have 1side of case off)
so right got a new power supply

BUT.. like all graphics are fuck.. , windows freezes, crashes etc,
Also my cdwriter is no power(nothing-so cant burn off h/drive etc)
Main Point - I know something else(component is fuck..)
2 any really advanced users wot component after the above happened cud also be damaged
i have no virus'es, spyw, adware on pc(DONE ALL THAT)
Any views on what else cud of gone(component)etc...
    that would cause this

if your power supply fried, why wouldn't you think the rest did too?

circuit boards don't like unregulated voltage surges very much

you probably wrecked the whole computer

try the hard drive in another computer and if it work ok then check the other part until all is left is to check the mobo and cpu which you would need a test power supply. If the hard drive doesn't come up the most likely all the other item in the computer is also fried. You could check ever parts to see which does work so it would save you some money.

The hard disk is likely fine, but I'd test it in another computer. (If it's formatted in NTFS, expect some "Access Denied" errors, but pay them no heed. That's fixable.)

Most likely components to have fried (besides power supply, obviously) are the motherboard and memory. If you can, I'd run a memory test on the RAM in a different computer with a known-working motherboard/cpu. I'd also test the graphics card in the known-working system.

When switching out parts, it's most useful to have all of the parts known to be working except for the one you're testing. Otherwise the troubleshooting won't be an effective way of determining the functionality of a part.

A surge protector most likely would have prevented this. Might be a good idea to get one.
