I've heard so many bad things about BearShare and I don't get it. I've experienced nothing but good things with it.
There are a ton of files, I've never been able to not get a file, no matter how rare it was. The download speeds are amazing. I've downloaded 700mb movies in just over an hour. The music and program download at amazing speeds. The only other program I've ever found that comes close to the speed is Kazaa Lite.
I've tried Sharaza, E-Donkey, E-Mule, LimeWire, I-Mesh, Bit-Torrent, and a couple others, and they are all terrible. E-Mule has more files and faster searching, but it downloads at about a max of 5kb a second. No matter how much tweaking, help sections I read, or tips from forums, none of these other programs can download anything and the rate BearShare does. Usually when I search for a file on BearShare, let's say the movie 'The Truman Show" I get usually around 140 sources to download from. I download it, and it flies through and it's done in an hour. Any other program I use it either takes an hour to even start downloading, or it only downloads at a snails pace.
The interface is simple and effective, but the only problem, and major problem with the software is that Previewing Files is not very good. It's really hard to preview a movie or song even if you use the player that comes with.
As for adware and spywear, well geez get the BearShare Lite program. It free of anything like that and it has ALL of the features of the original one.
Overall I can never understand why people hate it so much. Searching is extremely fast, it always searches for new sources, and it's not bloated with features you never use. Plus you can use Bitzi with it so you are almost always guaranteed that you won't get a virus, and that the movie your downloading is the best quality available.
I guess it's just my experiences lol Oh well
By the way I have an ADSL connection, Windows XP computer. Even before this new one, my old computer from 1998 did just as well with the program as the new one.
You'll get no arguments here (Vinnie???) :icon_joke

bearshare was one of the first to bundle spyware
even if they are clean now, i'd never use them out of principle, as i refuse to install any p2p that tries to make money off of me
one word limewire....(or is that two?)not that i use gnut anymore its only good for a few 128kb singles.
i agree with bob...oo and the whole"how come you cant share bears on bearshare" what a rip off!
Rest in peace mother

You will always be with me.
BearShare is better than Limewire!, but it needs to get stable.
Just give it a try.

You signed up on December 2nd, 2004 and with more then six months deliberation two of the first three words of your very first post include the two words "butt head". Sorry but maybe you should of waited longer. Sorry Bearshare is not really that cool; no it doesn't work that well; only connects to its own clients; the GUI is still shit and as long as the MFer Vinnie has anything to do with it, it will always suck.Originally Posted by MrBag
Sorry just my two cents.
limewire is way better
i have simple reason, all these gnutella clients favour their own builds, limewire mostly connects to limewire
shareaza always on g2 with shareaza, morpheus huh dont care, and bearshare with bearshare
and most downloaded software is limewire out of these, so limewire is better
before a morpheus fanboy says its most downloaded software, that was old skool morpehus one that connected to fasttrack
BearShare sucks for one reason and that adware/spyware. I refuse to install anything that has Spyware in it. If you want to connect to the gnutella 1/2 use LimeWire or Shareaza which has no spyware in them. If you don't mind waiting then Emule is not bad choice either.
In final note BearShare sucks, if it cleans it act maybe I try it but as it is, no.
Dont you just love stupid fanboy threads
another one to add to the list lol
Bearsharelite does have spyware! Look inside the Bearsharelite directory and you will find a file called webstats.ini and also a folder called webstats. This is spyware. Just thought i would let you know, since you are going around giving false information. I thought that you indeed ought to be corrected. Try an open-source client like shareaza or gnucleus if you want to be sure that it is spyware free.
scanned with spybot alls kewl with bearshare lite
You are correct sir....Originally Posted by Ezza6745

BearShare and anything that connects to gnuttela is good to install on a computer illiterates computer, like a sister or mother who wants to download music.
But honestly both gnutellas suck bad, some programs are pretty slick and cool but c'mon you can't find shit on gnuttela other than top-40 music, old apps and uber commercial movies.
