    my idea? . . .

im thinking of creating a file sharing program, well more a file transfer program. The idea i have has nothing to do with p2p programs as they are based on "searching for a file and downloading". The approach im taking is to replace ftp servers, web servers, and MSN/ICQ to send files to another user.

Its based more on you the user, wanting to send a file to someone else. Normally a user would use MSN to send a file to someone else or IRC, further down the line if you wanted many users downloading or even uploading a particular file would be an ftp server or web server.

My appraoch is to take this a little further by allowing a service that does a little more than this but with ease of use. Hopefully!

    Who is it aimed at?
    - Thinking of just aiming it at personal use, as this is what i had in mind in the first place.
    - Maybe business use. This will only be considered if it is sucessful at personally stages.

The components what it will implement will be very similar to every other P2P application.
Such as; Browse, search, download, etc.

    What is the aim?

    take for example,
User say B, wants to get a file that user A has. User A and B open their programs (the program i will create). User A has set the program so that its sharing a file that user B wants. User A tells B its name (IP address) so it knows who to connect to (perhaps via speech, MSN, IRC, MSN plug in).Now that B knows who to connect to, a connection is established. User B looks at what user A has to offer and can see the file that it wants and simply downloads it.

I need another way for them to connect to each other sending ips to each other is not good enough.
    - thinking of something like no-ip.com has to offer, but dont think its any good.
    - there needs to be a way so that users can use easy names to remember instead of their ip, therefore there needs to be for example, username to ip converter. The only way i can think of is a central server that once a application is launched by a user it registers with a central server that holds it username and ip, then when another user say user B wants to connect to A it will have to go via the central server to resolve the username to ip.

But i do not like any of these two options, the first is just the wrong way to go and wont work, well i dont think anyway. The second will work but i dont like the central server at all, this should just be two clients talking to eachother.

Do you know of other ways to communicate and connect to other users without ip and a central server.

Any other suggestions? please give me any advice

IP scan, private and public key and table like this one
    http://larytet.sourceforge.net/ipRange/ipRanges.xml

A and B can find each other using IP scan and download the data. see example of file description http://larytet.sourceforge.net/rodiHash.xml
links above are XML files. open the files in regular text editor to find out how they really look like.
file with hashes can contain IP addresses, domain names, chat rooms IDs
