Cannot get ANts to work - PLZ help

have installed latest beta (as of 5/2/05) and setup according to tutorials. Opened ports 4567&8 in router, setup exceptions in XP Firewall for ANtsTCP&TCPServer for same ports, provided true IP to ANts (not local IP) and I get Generating ID... and in RED beneath, "FIREWALL PROBING IDLE" . So can't connect at all. Please help.

hmm, temporarily shut the xp firewall completly and try to connect. In the IRC list find your name an right click on it and hit the "probe firewall button". See if that clears it up. Then right click on a few other users names in IRC and fit "request connection". in the setting panel also make sure you have boxed checked that says "serch gweb for peers" and also box that says "search peers on irc" If non of that works , try mute, see if that you can connect with that. Then come back and tell me and we will see what else we can try.

Thanks for your fast reply tsafa1....I shut down the XP firewall and still not able to connect. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by IRC list and finding my name, probing network, etc. (newbie but have read the tutorial, etc.). I have search peers on GWebCache checked, and search peers on IRC and autoresume and monitor clipboard links checked as well.

Installled Mute, updated WebHostCaches.ini, setup router to allow passthrough on Port4900 and yes, able to connect using Mute on 4 servers with full connection qulaity.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!

in the Ants chat room you will see a list of names of the people in the chat room. Right click on those names and you will see some options. Are you absolutly sure you are set on right IP number. not 169.... or 192... other posibility is to uninstall and reinstall. i have had bad installations. You will seestep by step instrucions in the tutorial.

also, what version are you using? 1.0.1 protocol 0.6.5 right?

try changing the default port numbers try 8250 ( and 8251) Is therr a posibility that you are Nated. (only have ha few port numbers availableto you)

another way to try is to install a brogram that can monitor internet connections, like netlimiter andsee if the program is trying to connect to the internet.

    Hi leutz,

I've the the same problem, start ANts, set my IP to the public one, then I click on the Start ANts button, but then ANts doesn't try to connect to the net, and the message is

    Generating ID...
    Firewall probing idle (red)

    IP: <my public>

    ID:

    0:0:0

    that's all...

Well ... don't no what you meaning with ... hit the Probing Firewall button, don't see one ... :/

In the settings, I've set this:

    Max neighbours number:4
Max download requests to serve: 10
    Max ... connections: 10k
    Connection Speed: DSL
    Max sources per dl: 5
    Max concurrent downloads:5
    Upload Bandwidth: 104Kbit/s

The IRC server is the defaul one, "irc.accessirc.net" the channel #antsp2p passwort is blank the bot password too, the Connect button is gray !?!
It doesn't matter what server I take or which password(s) I try, the button stay gray.

My Firewall is McAfee's one, but I try ANts without Firewall...
I try ANts on another PC there is the same problem...

OK now is ANts running, but I find no peers or one peer and get all the time disconnects :(

    IRC Server:
    irc.accessirc.net
    Channel:
    #antsp2p

    Port
    4567
Both are forward (in the Router) but I think it doen't work, because I get the message that should check the Firewall/NAT.

    Hope you can help me.

Having the same propblem as above:

    - Running via a router
    - Ports 4567-4567 forwarded to my machine (TCP only)
    - Firewall (both XP firewall and kerio) disabled
    - ANTs v beta 1.0.1, protocol 0.65
    - PC Specs - AMD Athlon 2200+, WIn XP SP2

    Ant's start page shows
    - Generating ID...
    - Firewall probe is ideal (in red)
    - Tab shows 'Hit start ants'
    - Start button is greyed out

    ANTs settings
    - Search peers on Gwebcache ON
    - IP or hostname set to my public (82.xxx.xxx.xxx) IP address
    - Publish IP on Gwebcache ON
    - Remember IP ON

    IRC setttings
    - Server: irc.accessirc.net
    - Chan: #antsp2p
    - Password: blank
    - Search peers on IRC ON
    - Connect button is greyed out

Really would like to get started with this, so if anyone has any advice...

    ----------------------------------

Edit: I've askeda about this problem elsewhere. Apparently it's a problem with the ANts offline installer. If you've used that, and are having this problem, try uninstalling ANts and then reinstalling from this location: http://www.myjavaserver.com/%7Egwren/Ants/antsp2p.jnlp
