Divx plays on computer but doesn't show on tv

As like most people I have a load of divx and xvid videos and I was watching on of them the other day. My laptop has an s-video output to the likes of videos, tv's ect. Anyway I hooked up my laptop to my tv (s-video to a scart adapter to tv). Everything was roses, clear picture, full screen and I had colour. Now I used this before with some games and microsoft word and they worked fine but when I play a divx or a xvid in ANY of my compatible players, I hear the sound through the tv but the picture is just a faint dark purple. Now I'm looking at my laptop seeing the video playing and on the tv screen I can see wmp but not the video. It's really weird because when I playing mpeg's or mov's they work perfectly. So what's up with this?

    Any suggestions wouldn't go amiss!

    Thanks in advance!

Exact same thing happens on my laptop - the only solution is to set the display so it's only going to the TV, or set your video drivers so the TV is the main screen. I know you can do this on an ATI card - that's what my laptop has. It's just under the display settings

Yep, tried that with mine too but still no luck! It doesn't make any sense? What could block it. It's extremely unlikely because it's a divx..... isn't it?

That's strange how it works with other video formats. Only thing I can think of is to try playing it in Windows Media Player with video acceleration turned off. (in Tools->Options->Performance).

Its a video overlay problem. You need to make the TV the default monitor for video overlay. Alternatively, (this is what I do) you could extend your desktop to the TV, then just drag the video app onto the TV screen, then go to fullscreen. That should work.
