    Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 RC beta

    Spybot Search and Destroy searches your hard drive for so-called spy- or adbots; that is, little modules that are responsible for the ads many programs display. Many of these modules also transmit information, including your surfing behavior on the Internet. If it finds such modules, it can remove them. In most cases the host still runs fine after removing the spyware/adware.

    Another feature is the removal of usage tracks, which makes it more complicated for unknown spybots to transmit useful data. The list of last visited websites, opened files, started programs, cookies, all that and more can be cleaned. Supported are the three major browsers Internet Explorer, Netscape Communicator, and Opera.
    Latest Changes:

    * Added Opera folder profile directory
    * Fixed default value handling in registry entry recovery
    * Fixed always opening on settings page
    * Fixed localization of IncludeServices checkbox
    * Fixed status bar text after SysInternals scan
    * Fixed Host Redirect fix result for duplicates
    * Fixed another selection bug
    * Added Save/Load View Report settings
    * Improved proxy handling to allow @'s in username
    * Protection of exclude lists against tampering
    * Main app now can detect changes to itself
    * New /unimmunize CLP
    * Updated system startup database usage
    * Made settings password dialog to masked
    * Changed Immunization to use encrypted file

    * Updated ActiveX & BHO icons
    * Implemented immunize undo value
    * Added uninstall confirmation dialog
    * Added shredder confirmation dialog
    * Update result icon for cache
    * Updated availability of SysInts excludes remove option
    * Now uses better server for first update contact
    * Added button to stop update downloads
    * Added VeriSign certificate (for additional contents check)

    Yes, I am aware that you can install over old copies, I use it in an enterpise environment almost as big as your country, get it?

    As a matter of best practices I always say that because there are plenty of instances where this is not a good idea.

    You may notice a new set of start up entries with this version - WINLOGON

    I would be judicious about removing these for now, especially the wlnotify.dll or ones related to cryptography.

    wlnotify.dll

    wlnotify.dll - Here is the scoop on Common Dll To Receive Winlogon Notifications. The big question: what is wlnotify.dll and is it spyware, a trojan and if so, how do I get rid of Common Dll To Receive Winlogon Notifications?
    wlnotify.dll (Common Dll To Receive Winlogon Notifications) - Details

    The library file wlnotify.dll, is required by windows and is used to handle WinLogon related events such as LogOn, LogOff etc. Windows will not work, if wlnotify.dll is unavailable.

    wlnotify.dll is flagged as a system process and does not appear to be a security risk. However, removing Common Dll To Receive Winlogon Notifications may adversly impact your system.

    The Spy Bot database currently registers wlnotify.dll to Microsoft.

    This is part of Microsoft Windows.

    wlnotify.dll is related to msgina.dll.

    Whenever you have a concern about a file like wlnotify.dll, feel free to visit our free spyware removal page to help verify your file is not a security risk.

    The Spy Bot database is updated often, but inaccuracies may still exist, often caused by viruses named after valid files such as Common Dll To Receive Winlogon Notifications. Always verify your results just to play it safe.
    WLNOTIFY.DLL - Disclaimer

    Every attempt has been made to provide you with the correct information for wlnotify.dll or COMMON DLL TO RECEIVE WINLOGON NOTIFICATIONS. Many spyware/malware programs use filenames of usual, non-malware programs. If we have included information about wlnotify.dll that is inaccurate, we would greatly appreciate your help by updating the spy bot database and we'll promptly correct it.

    You should verify the accuracy of information we provided about wlnotify.dll. Common Dll To Receive Winlogon Notifications may have had a status change since this page was published.

    Anyone getting a false positive for something called "mysoft" with 1.4? (I know what mysoft is BTW,that wasn't the question)The last update for 1.3 started picking this thing up but it won't uninstall it.Kolle hasn't said anything about it yet.
    They seem to take a long time with their bug fixes.Usually it happens right before a new release,seems they slow developement on the previous version.Makes sense I guess.

    I get a false positive with mysoft. I think it's because of the updated beta detections.

    Edit: typo

    if anyone cares canada is the second largest country land wise in the world next to russia
    A world of invisible people. We pass them without seeing them, as casually and indifferently as we pass our own reflections in store front windows. Do they really live among us? Or are they citizens of another country, a vast and teaming gulag of the dispossessed. No, don't turn away. Look in their faces. Do you see your brother? Your mother? An old friend? Someone you went to school with? Someone you once loved? No? You didn't see them? Not today. Tomorrow you could.

    Not only that but this too---Canada's coastline is the world's longest at 243,792 km or 151,485 miles (including the coastline of the country's 52,455 islands.)(from here http://geography.about.com/library/weekly/aa052500a.htm)
    But hey, really ,this thread was meant to be about Spybot and I think we should leave those evil Canadiens out of the thread.Well,not to exclude them from participating in the thread or anything.

    I will wait until Spybot S&D 1.4 goes final before I choose to install it, but I love Spybot S&D and have used it every since it first came out. It sounds like the program is even going to get better. I can't hardly wait until the final gets released.

    ThankYou. :gj
