    BlueTooth Sniper Rifle

I couldn't find this in the news section or a forum search, so...

... I just heard an interview on NPR today about a guy who made a BlueTooth Sniper Rifle. It can detect bluetooth devices over a mile away and gain access to the unsecured ones.
    Pretty cool... http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article106.php

This is not overly sophisticated, but it has that "hacker hype" to it.

Remember the movie HEAT, with Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino? One of the characters has a score, a bank, and knows the cash flow etc. He says "the information is out there, just flyin around, all you gotta know is how to get it, and I know how to get it"

Yeah, yeah.. the guy in the wheelchair who sells the info to DeNiro...

Sophisticated or not, it's really sweet. I'd save "hacker hype" to describe "Free Adrian Lamo" or "social engineering specialist" t-shirts. Or would that be hacker schwag?

No not too schwag, as far as schwag goes. But if youre going to gain access to another device with the purposes of receiving something that you didnt have before, adding something that was not there before, or altering or disabling the devices current configuration and operating parameters . . . then what else do you liken it to? Why else be interested?

Otherwise, you spent a lot of money to be a self-leetness peeping tom.

Hahaha well, few things qualify as that "ginchy"

Use it to site survey a bldg and tell them that their bluetooth devices are all unsecure

Go to jail for white hat work, because youre a threat to national security.

    Sad

Or get a bullet in the head because they thought you were pointing a rifle at a government building.
