VOD to Computer

I got excitable and put a switch onto my cable link in to my computer so I could get both regular cable and the feed from Video on Demand from my cable provider.

Here's the issue..There are a number of horizontal lines in it.

There aren't lines in regular cable of course and the lines don't show up on the tv so I'm wondering if my provider is adding a 'spike' to the feed in fears of people recording the feed. Their VOD help page simply says "No, you cannot watch this on your computer screen".

So do you think it's a spike or is there something I might try? (I've already played with the latency timer so that's not it)

Well, first of all, to watch anything "cable" on your PC, you need to have a tv tuner card, that can decode the PAL or NTSC carrier that the data is on. Also, it has to be OUTPUT on a channel that is within the tuners range, so channel 500 might not work.

If you can decipher the VOD thru your cable box, and see it on your TV, then I think the problem is that you need an ATI ALL IN WONDER TV TUNER card. Or, an equivelent, but they are the king of PC tv tuner cards.

I have not owned a TV since about 1995, my PC had always been my TV etc. So I can watch HBO, download porn, chat with some hooker in Australia, and burn at the same time.

No sorry I should have included that in my post.

I have a ati tuner card that I've been using for regular cable for about a year.

if you go straight to your TV, what channel do you have to tune to in order to see the VOD?

While the VOD is in session, if you take the coax cable and unscrew it from the TV, and then screw it to your tuner card, can you select that same channel? Do you see anything of the progam, and get audio? Or is it just that you see the program with lines in it?
