Bitcomet slow speed in Windows XP Pro SP2

I download 5 files...and the total download speed of all files only goes up to 25kb/s at best....just like the upload speed....
I read at Bitcomet FAQ that there is a way to speed up...something like downloading a patch and changing the Max simultaneous TCP connections...whatever the link given at the FAQ is ...it is dead for 1 week....

Yes that website is down, but I have saved that fix in my file sharing group. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Spywar...aringPrograms/ you will have to join with a Yahoo ID to download the files. In the files section under "Service Pack 2 Connection Fix" you can download this zip folder with the fix and the installation instructions included. I haven't found another website to get this fix since that website went down. Spead the word to everyone who wants to get this connection fix for Service Pack 2. I tried to attach this zipped folder but it was too large.

On a cable modem connection, I can get speeds up to 85kb/s. Sometimes even speeds over 85kb/s on some downloads. Before I installed this fix, I only could maybe get up to 30kb/s at the best speed. It really made my downloads speed up on LimeWire. I can download on LimeWire with speeds as fast as BitComet.

I installed the patch....it said that Max concurrent TCP connections is changed to 50...OK great!...asked me to reboot...Ok fine!....I ran the Bitcomet but the total download speed is still the same! :playboy ...Am i missing something? :upside

If you are using BitComet 0.57 some BitTorrent trackers and clients are blocking it causing it to have slow download speeds. I have attached a patch to change the identity to keep other clients and trackers from blocking BitComet 0.57. Just extract this patch to your BitComet folder and run. This will change your BitComet.exe to the best settings and the identity to BitTorrent official client. If this does not work to change the BitComet.exe back to the original state just re-install BitComet.

My com is connected to the internet thru a router....do i need to do port forwarding? :aim ...If yes, my router is 'NetGear FR114P'...how to do port forwarding?

Here is a website that shows you how to do port forwarding for your router.

You will need to check your BitComet connection settings to find which port that you are using to know which one to forward. On mine I use TCP port 20570 and it gives me great download speeds. Hope this helps.

For future windows installs, you can use nLite to patch the TCP maxhalfopen connections up to 1000+ (I reccomend 256 highly, and 512 is overkill .... 10 is default and anything over 1024 seems to cause memory leakage)

I completed port forwarding....

speed is still same :goodjob ....is it because of not enough sources/seeders, that my downloading is slow ?.....

For ur fastest downloading file...how many seeds/peers do u have ? ...

My best downloading file varies from 4kb/s to 9kb/s :tilted ....has seeds/peers = 8 / 27 ....

I'm on SP2 now too (new computer yesterday!!)... and I'm using BitComet

Last night I downloaded 4 torrents at the same time. The fastest was >100KB/s, the four totalled 170kb/s, this was after 5 minutes. - Conclusion... it's weird... despite dreading the move to SP2 (I avoided it and still haven't installed it on my old computer!!!)... the limit doesn't seem to be effecting me.

Client: BitComet 0.57
Settings: All Default
Trackers: tvtorrents / btefnet / uknova

Question to the original poster... (and yeah.. you're probably right about the seeder/leecher ratios) - Have you tried torrents on private/semi-private trackers? (they tend to have better speeds because of the ratios, less leechers, etc. - I often get torrents where there are more seeders than leechers.. even on the big releases!!)

One thing I have found as a general rule with torrent downloads... If you don't upload much you will find many peers/clients/etc. 'choke' you (prioritizing those who share-back over those who don't) which slows you down until there are more seeds.

The better you are at distributing the file - the quicker it'll get pushed to you!! (at least, that's my experience!!)

I use TorrentSpy to search for torrents, it is the best. http://www.torrentspy.com/

You could loose your files if you re-install.

Depends on what site your using as well. Most of these torrent sites that has no user registration or ratio rules. Will have people skimming the client by uploading little as possible and downloading as much as possible, or they may not be connectable peers themselfs. On torrentbytes.net, i download at around 300kbs through 28 seeds and 300 or more leeches. My upload is about 40kbs. which each peer gets 3-8 kbs.
