Internet Explorer Will not access Windows Update Properly

When I attempt to access Windows Update, the status bar at the bottom of the screen says that it is done loading, but I find myself staring at a blank white screen. Also, I have noticed that the download button on GetFireFox.com has disappeared as well. I have a feeling that it has something to do with activeX, but I am not really sure.

I ran Ad-Aware SE Personal, Adware Away, Spybot S+D, Hijack This, and Antivir. These removed a lot of viruses and spyware, but have not resolved the problem.

On a side note, Windows Media Player has started giving me an error message and says "The Memory could not be 'Read'", if you're familiar with that old message.

Any help to fix the above problems would be greatly appreciated, Thank you for your time.
