any safe free p2p or fee based sites?

I was recently downloading from Soulseek when my computer detected a virus. I thought Soulseek was a safe site for p2p file sharing. Are any sites safe from viruses and spyware?
I am really cautious, and I guess a little paranoid at this point. I enjoy the music, and certainly miss downloading. What about the fee based download sites? Are they safe? If so, any recommendations?
I miss the music, but do not want the viruses and spyware. Thanks.

how do u even know soulseek brought you the virus?

anyway, all p2p progs have a risk of getting a virus. its just about choosing sources well and always be protected. firewall or NAT are the best choice, if something manages to get thru just be sure to have your antivirus up to date and ready to get rid of any threats

id have to say you are just being too paranoid, get yourself a firewall (software or hardware), a decent antivirus, a few anti spyware tools (i use spybot, adaware and spy blaster) and enjoy your filesharing experience

    Good Luck,

thanks for the reply. what are your thoughts on the fee-based p2p file sharing sites?
also, the info on the virus detection said it was from Soulseek. I really like Soulseek. I thought it was supposed to be a safer site. Do you have any recommendations for p2p sites that are considered safer?
Finally, you mentioned a firewall. I have the Windows XP firewall. Is it ok?
    Thanks again.

https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/soft23a.htm list of spyware free clients
i m with wacko u probably downloaded a virus from a file on soulseek p2p program and not from the website, altho there was information long ago of getting viruses from mp3.

the truth is tho u are at fault not soul seek. u downloaded some file that was virus infested. btw merely visiting the original soul seek site wont give u a virus.

u are a newbie to p2p and need to become aware of what u download.

welcome to zp and rember to get a free amtivirus program from here u choose what version of the antivirus u want tho.http://www.snapfiles.com/freeware/security/fwvirus.html

next go get spybot and adaware and download each then install it, update it, scan for spyware ok.
    get it here
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/adaware.html
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/spybot.html

make sure u read the links up above ok.
try to remember to scan your files for viruses with one of the free virus scanners ok.
    all these program are freeware.
    peace
    welcome again to zeropaid.com

btw you should disable that firewall winxp.
    get this one here sygate
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/sygatefw.html

wanna remove some of xp crap
    get this antispyware tool here
from webattack all these programs are freeware
    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/xpantispy.html

I hope u read what is being linked to webattack, these programs will help you protect yourself, if u have any questions just post back here.

remember that its in your best interests to protect your computer and please dont download kazaa or morpheous as these programs have spyware, adware and are just going to give u viruses and mess up your computer.

    cheers

all "fee-based" "p2p apps" are scams.
p2p means your downloading from peers that freely share, so anyone who charges to download from peers is taking your money and laughing.

winxp firewall in service pack 2 or 1?
SP1's firewall useless, but SP2 is much much better
i use sygate personal firewall which is *free* and works awesome for me, ever since my last re format i have gotten absoultely no spyware (apart from a few traking cookies) and no viruses.

u need to get a bit more into filesharing because it can be dangerous if u dont know what you are doing

    Thanks for the info.
I downloaded Sygate and uninstalled the Windows XP firewall. So far so good. My next question concerns a hardware firewall router. Do you recommend one with the Sygate software? If so, can you offer a recommendation?

You can get a worm just being connected to the internet. The only way to protect your self is with a good-antivirus program. That is a must. Gwt norton 2005 or the latest macafee. you can find them on limewire. make sure you get one that that has a crack included. And that is it. Just update your virus definitions often. you can not stop virus or worm attacks no matter what, you just have to be protected against them.

from experience norton and mcafee arent that great
i just went and got AVG Free Edition and it works great for me, no malicious processes and no weird computer behaviour

i have sygate running and my linksys router so i have hardware and software firewall, this comes in handy when for some reason a program doesnt work even when you forward the ports on the router, then you can just enable dmz to your computers ip address and have sygate take care of protection

http://www.allofmp3.com/ is a fee based download site that offers music at reasonable prices in any format and any quality that you want and of course no viruses or spyware.
