I haven't been using DC++ very long, but I am already starting to use it a lot more than I use any of my p2p apps. I was wondering if some of you all could give me your input on a few questions I have.
1. If I connect to a hub, and that hub is connected to other hubs, will those secondary hubs be included in any search that I run?
2. Are there ways to spoof the fact that I'm using an alternative client, or do any of the alternative clients have the ability to send fake info to bots etc.? How strict are hub owners about alternative clients..would they normally ban your by IP, or just give you a warning and kick you out? Also does anyone know of an DC++ based client that will let you preview video files with the VLC Player (videolan)?
3. This might be pushing it, but I'll ask anyways. Could you all name off a few good hubs to go to for the following items: Games, Apps, Movies, and Music. I have about 20gigs to share and I'm limited to that for the moment.
Thanks in advance.
It depends if those other hubs are linked or not. Hubs running Ptokax and SDCH could be linked by either hublink or a LUA script. Hubs running Y(n)Hub can be linked with chat only, no searches.Originally Posted by Zer0_II
Yes and yes.Originally Posted by Zer0_II
Very strict, depending on the client. If it includes fake hub counts, slot locking, etc, then an IP ban will be forthcoming. Otherwise, maybe a kick. But of course every hub admin is different.Originally Posted by Zer0_II

Hub is a hub is a hub. Everyone has a different idea of what makes a good hub. The public list can be filtered by keywork, or use the search at hublist.org to find a hub which fits you best.Originally Posted by Zer0_II
Thanks for the info. I suppose that I still have a lot to learn. I would especially like to learn more about the actual hub scripts. I'm trying out the LDC++ client right now. So far I haven't been kicked out of any of the hubs I usually go to so that's good. I'm having trouble finding a decent hub at hublist.org actually. I've checked it out before, but it seems as if some of the information there is inaccurate sometimes. A lot of times the minimum share on the public list is wrong as well and I end up getting kicked. That's why I was asking for people's personal preferences. I know that people are going to have different opinions on what they think is a good hub, but I'm willing to check out any hubs that you all suggest.
