Talking ANts P2P 1st Usable Anonymous File Sharing Client!

I have been using the unstable 0.97 version of ANts P2P for the past 2 days. It has been working as well as 2nd generation client.

I have been downloading and uploading at a reasonable speed between 5 to 15 Kb/s.

There are now alot of MP3 available but not at 2nd gen levels.

More users who are interested in SHARING their entire MP3 collections in safety are needed.

One major issue outstanding is that the hashing of content takes a long time and a lot of CPU resource.

Another issue is connecting to the network. The webcache does not seem to be able to cope with the higher number of users since the Tech TV exposure and it is not always possible to connect to irc. So sometimes patience is needed.

Other than that ANts P2P is a new WORKING filesharing client waiting for users.

Others have seen this quite incredible improvement see below for a quote form the MUTE mailing list.

I think currently ANts has won the race to be the first working P2P client with effective deniability for users. Although you never know MUTE might suddenly improve and over take it.

The world has 3, generation born. If mute exists or not, this is for no
interest of any potato sack in china, as well if ants has an emule gui
    or not.
We´re done to be pushy, all othe ris luxury. We have the same point of
time, as Shareaza-Mike made 2.0 open source.
Ants is ready for filesharing, constant 10 Kibs up and down is very good.
    Ants has many sources.
so the winner may troll to the three step winner place, but definetly
it is ants, the first working 3,. gen p2p app.
To say congratulation for the first round, is not wrong,
There will follow some other rounds, of course, but they are luxury just
to attract users, technically, ants is the first working 3 gen p2p protocol.
ML donkey was the first gnutelladonkey with partial uploa din both
networks, Though shareaza got a bigger userbase.
So mute has a lot of chances, but technically, after MLDonkey beeing
the first gnutelladonkey, ants is the first 3.genration filesahring app.

Gnutella (Liek Limewire and Bearshare and Morpheus) after Napster.
    Kazaa and Edonkey biggest networks
    MlDonkey first gnutelladonkey
Shareaza sexiest multi-network client, though ares is sexy one-network
    as well
And after this is then the 3. generation.
The concept of a selfproxiing network had a lot of persons in mind.
jason is not to mention here too much.

History has been written with ants 098. Working, technically and user
    usable with stable community.

thanks for that. and for all the efford.

Well done Gwren and all the other who have helped in testing or have made sugestions helpful or otherwise.

your heading implies that someone else has created a client to work with Ants. That would be great but that is not the case yet. That is how i read your heading, so be carefull because people get pissed off if misslead them. Most people here are intelegent and will know the diffrence.

9.7 u works well because of the scaling protocole Gwen implemanted. However this is still raw and needs debugging. With 120 gb shared and getting threads of 2,000. At one point i had threads of 4,500 which crashed ants. The new updates seem to keep it better under under control but as I posted in other post, i Gwren needs to hear from you other guys too. Read other post on how to find and report thread information.

Where is advert? - I posted what I believe. I hope you do the same.

    Or do you censor yourself?

ANts P2P still has issues but it is now downloading and uploading at NORMAL p2p speeds.

    MUTE is not doing that.

It is still in development and I did mention several issues that it has outstanding.

If you don't use your freedom of speech you lose it.

    I also mentioned negatives:

One major issue outstanding is that the hashing of content takes a long time and a lot of CPU resource.

Another issue is connecting to the network. The webcache does not seem to be able to cope with the higher number of users since the Tech TV exposure and it is not always possible to connect to irc. So sometimes patience is needed.
Tsafa has also mentioned a thread issue.

ANts P2P is open source and it's developing fast. When finished it should be a good replacement for bit torrent (BT).

MPAA is terrorising BT currently see http://www.slyck.com/forums/viewtopi...857&highlight= A SOLUTION IS NEEDED.

I MAKE NO APOLOGY IN POSTING AN UPDATE OF ANTS PROJECT.

Most post on ANts forum are negative - the average reader would think that ANts p2p still doesn't work and can't be used for downloading or sharing files when this is far far from the truth.

Fact: it has some bug but basically WORKS.

Have you posted a bug report on sourceforge?

see http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...82&atid=645586 seems like a similar issue.

I always seem to get better speeds with MUTE then I do with Ants.

BT is the king of file sharing and will remain so for a very very long time.
But Ants could become a major player.

The over all effect of that was an increase in BT usage.

remeber ants is going through some major core improvements. Each improvemnet tends to through things out of balance a little and then they need to be realigned. The changes in 9.7 are so ants can scale without limit.

Mute is a good program and i use it alongside ants, but without partial filesharing and swarming, i do not think it will appeal to the filesharing masses who demand minimun 30 kb/s download speeds. Ants has that and even faster speeds, its just a mater of debugging the latest changes. It is alot easier to debug ants then to add swarming and partial sharing to mute.

But Gwren is not out of ideas yet. After he finishes debugging 9.7 he has an idea, he discused with me, to make ants even faster. Right now ants transfers one chunk at a time. This is why transfer even when fast seem interupted. Next he will try to get ants so that when a chunk is half way transfered the next one begins transfering too. Just i a thought for now. But be prepared, after scaling fetures in 9.7 are perfected and we move to the next challange it will mean more debugging. Thats what it takes to be secure and fast.

I do think that Ants has the most potential out of all the current anonymous p2p programs.
