Connecting to bittorrent through Internet Explorer Ports

I'm in a halls of residence, where there seems to be an external firewall in place, as I have been unable to use bittorrent whilst I have been here. I guess that means the ports have been blocked. Is there anyway I can use p2p through the internet explorer ports? Anyone have any suggestions for my problem?

    Thanks

well get a BT client like abc and change the default ports to 80 or 21 usually they are open in university dormsss
but if your dorms are like mine and have every single port blocked then your outta luckk
uu can still use BT but it would be really slow

as far as port 80 goes, that is the remote port, not the local port in use when you surf the web,
if an admin has you limited to only accessing remote port 80's kazaa might be the best p2p since it uses 80 as an alt-port on the supernodes and sources you will need to connect to for searching and downloading.
however if your admin is limiting the local listening ports
you might try port 443, as thats the local port IE uses for encripted web sites
you may not be able to view secure web sites in IE while running p2p apps in port 443 though

Well, if your UNI is anything like Platteville, you can't use port 80. They use an advanced packet shaper that detects and limits any non http, pop3, or inbound ftp.

Cpu has tried to help me get through, and we couldn't find a way. The only thing I have noticed, is our school has a few ports open, we figure for some kind of network services or something, that are completely open. So we have to randomly search around and find the new port every week or so.

Take down any firewall you might be running (temporarily) and take note of any "unstealthed" or "closed" ports. (The terminology I used is used on the GRC ShieldsUp test, I'm not sure about the others.)

shawners you should look into financial aid.

I was dirt poor with no money, no car, and a shit job. The feds trusted me and gave me some loot to get an eduation. Sure I got a monster bill to pay now, but I can afford it now that education gave me a decent job. Let me know if you have questions... :)
