    Are search results really this bad?

    I'm connected to 2 Gnutella2 hubs. I've tried about twenty search terms, most of them just designed to be popular, all with no (or extremly few) results. "Dave Matthews Band" has no hits over 7 hubs. "Madonna" has two hits over 5 hubs. Eminem has "some results filtered out," and I can't find the filter settings anywhere.

    Should I be getting more results than this?
    Am I not waiting long enough for results? How long should I wait?
    Is there a way to manually connect to more hubs, and would this have any effect anyways?

    If you just installed it you may need to wait till Ares hashes out all your files or you get poor perfromance from what I remember. You should be getting better results.

    Are you having trouble with any other P2P programs?

    @mel: it may take a long time for ares to hash his files when he's running shareaza :p

    There's still good old Gnutella. Not many files above 128 though. If you're using Shareaza, why not try it.

    @xenof

    You seem like a big Shareaza fan, but what I've noticed is that the number of results from G2 compared to the number from Gnutella using Bearshare isn't a great endorsement for the G2 network. I've also found that Shareaza returns 10x as many results from Gnutella with G2 turned off.

    Wow, I wish I'd known about that earlier. That test makes it a LOT easier to fix.

    Turns out my problem was with the port forwarding; my local IP used to be .0.2, but somehow it got switched to .0.3, so all my port forwarding settings were off.

    Stupid mistake, I know.
